Hello all, I made a post a couple of weeks ago about setting up a group chat for new students starting in September. We've got quite a few people already if anyone wants to join. I'm an Edinburgh graduate and I live in Edinburgh so more than happy to answer any questions about the university and city more generally.

We're mainly postgrads, but all are welcome and if we get enough undergrads I can set up a seperate chat for them as well.

Hey there! I'm Lewis, I'm 30 and Scottish.

I'm a keen traveller and I've made it to pretty much every continent, except Antarctica, at least once, though it's a dream of mine to go there some day too. I just love to explore new landscapes and cultures and meet interesting new people. If you've travelled a lot yourself, or would like to, then I'd love to hear all about it!

Physically I'm tall (6'4"), broad, blonde and I have blue eyes. I also have a beard, though I've gone back and forth between clean shaven and bearded. Likewise I've gone through periods of being very fit and lean, to being a lot bigger. Currently I'm working on losing weight and getting back into shape. I'm very much like a bear at the moment.

I work in the Scotch Whisky industry in sales/retail and I have a couple of degrees, my job is well paid and I enjoy it, though the hours are long. I have my own place and live quite comfortably alone.

I'm definitely a deep conversationalist and I like getting past the small talk and into something more meaningful, though some small talk, flirting and banter is fun too. I'm also quite romantic, I pay attention to the details and appreciate a girl who does the same. If you want someone reliable, mature and who knows what they want to how to handle themselves and you, then I'm your man. I'm quite playful and a bit of a compliment machine, so if you need genuine bigging up I've got you covered.

I love the outdoors, nature and whisky. I also really enjoy reading and writing, martial arts, cooking and baking, sports and video games.

I'm really interested in travel, culture, history, space, science, psychology, true crime, unsolved mysteries and all sorts, so feel free to talk about whatever takes your fancy. I enjoy hearing about people's passions and interests.

I've been in long term relationships for the longest time and while I'm not opposed to something starting out more casual, my priority is a long term commitment. I'm not opposed to long distance with an aim of meeting and eventually closing the distance.

Likewise for my age range, I don't have a strict preference as long as you aren't too young.

Would anyone be interested in setting up a group chat for incoming Postgrad and/or Undergrad students for 2026/27?

I was part of one when I attended UoE a few years ago. I'm from Edinburgh and I think it was really helpful for fellow students looking for advice.

I'm coming back to do a PhD this year.

Most groups you find seem to be riddled with promoters and people pushing services.

If there's interest let me know and we can discuss setting something up.

Edit: Due to getting quite a few replies of people interested I've set up a whatsapp group. Why Whatsapp? Well, it's a fairly global app and the most common for texting and GCs in the UK and is quite acessible.

All are welcome in the group, Masters and PhD Students. Undergrads are welcome too if you'd like to join, but the chat will be skewed towards PGs mostly.
