So here are my two (s)cents {sorry could not resist } about the two power-packed brothers from the Acqua Di Gio line-up.

Acqua Di-Gio Parfum- This is a gem in a bottle. From the first spray on your skin/clothes you will realise that you have hit jackpot. The aromatic and fresh-spicy accords with the subtle undertones of marine and citrusy notes, makes it a perfect fragrance for everyday use at the office or in formal meetings. If you don this you would be giving off vibes that you are the CEO or maybe owner of a Fortune 500 company( like Christian Grey from 50 Shades of Grey ) and have just arrived at office after a fresh shower. Fresh, clean and masculine in true sense of the words. As it settles down the incense and patchouli takes over and brings out the backbone of the fragrance and unravels it’s true character. The base notes are not dense enough to suffocate you on a summer evening and can easily make you sail through those late-evening office parties with charm and chivalry. Compliments galore on you because of this fragrance (of-course only if you are properly dressed, well groomed and most importantly well mannered). All in all it’s a near-perfect everyday fragrance for formal or semi-formal occasions. Based on the aforementioned words I believe you have already understood about it’s longevity. It will last a good 6-7 hours on an average summer day here in India and more as the temperature drops. A good 7-8 sprays should be enough to set you rolling for the day. Rating-9.8/10

Acqua Di Gio Profondo EDP- I had ordered a decant of this first before plunging for the full bottle and I was expecting nothing less. The whiff of the fresh marine-salty-floral accords will transport you straight to the beaches of Varkala/South Goa on a crisp morning or to the Amalfi Coast if you fancy that. You would feel like taking a stroll along the beach with a margehrita in hand and your linen shirt and trousers and goggles and cap on. As the gentle breeze would be caressing the contours of your body you would feel like one of the angels from the ocean have come to hug you and take your stress away and has left her trail of freshness on you. This is magnetic yet subtle and in my opinion the best beach vacation fragrance you can put on yourself at the price point. Granted, it might not be as rich like Xerjoff Torino 21 or TomFord Neroli Portofino but it sure packs enough punch to make people (especially the ladies) turn around and have a good look at you as you walk past and maybe if you are suave enough, be invited for a drink. But as they say, even the Moon has spots and so does it. The lacuna of this fragrance is it’s longevity. It does not last more than 5 hours on clothes and less so on skin on a good 7-8 sprays. The only way out is over-spraying and carrying with you a small travel size atomiser. Rating- 9.5/10

What according to the pundits of the sub reddit would be the best designer/niche perfume for India monsoons? For a city like BLR/CCU/BOM and for outdoors.

Here is my collection of perfumes after around 2.5 years. Please do share your thoughts and recommendations of what I should add.

1. JPG Le Male Le Parfum- My most favourite winter/cool-night scent. It smells amazing. The projection and sillage is fantastic. The lavender+Iris+Vanilla combo with a woody undertone makes it sophisticated enough to be worn without nose-blinding your near and dear ones yet loud enough to announce your arrival in the midst of a constellation of stars. If you want to make your ex regret her decision of parting ways, this is what you don. Rating- 9.5/10

2. Armani Code Parfum- In my opinion the pinnacle in my collection. The piece-de-resistance. The combination of iris, woody and citrusy notes would leave an impression on others that they can’t help but admire your presence and the choices you have made in your life, be that in the stock markets or the Jaeger Le-Coultre Reverso, or your recommendations to the client as their consultant or the fragrance you are wearing. It’s all nothing but the definition of impeccable. If you want your presence felt at any occassion this is what you reach for, fragrance-wise. Rating 9.9/10

3. Givenchy Gentleman Reserve Privee-If anyone ever asks me what to wear to a formal or semi-formal party/wedding, this is what comes to mind if you want people to notice you. Again the combination of the Iris+Woody+Whiskey notes makes one assume that everything in your life is well put-together, even if you have not attended to your laundry basket for a month. If you wear this to your wedding, your woman would swoon over you and would make her friends jealous of her, ever so slightly. It will compliment and augment you in being the star of the show and managing all the, attention, love and the “accidental” side-eyed gazes at you, deftly. Rating- 8.5/10

4. Azzaro The Most Wanted Parfum- If you are taking your lady love on a date during the cooler days, this is what you should reach for. As she cozies up to you at the end of the date for an extra dose of warmth and snug from you, the vanilla and the woody notes would not tingle her senses rather assure her heart that all the choices she made of choosing you over everything else, were the right ones and prove her brain wrong, atleast for once if not more. Rating- 9/5/10

5. Bentley For Man Intense- The name of this perfume speaks for itself. If you want to feel like you have stepped out of a newly bought Bentley, you can reach for this. Although if you overspray this, it would give people the impression that your entire personality and your life revolves around that Bentley you own, or atleast the thought of it. Rating- 7/10

6. YSL Myslf- Fresh, clean, sophisticated perfume from YSL. This is what you wear for a casual outing with your better half in the first part of the day during the warmer months. The citrus and floral accords exudes the perfect combination of casualness and class. Rating- 8/10

7. Afnan Supremacy Collector’s Edition- This is everyday wear fragrance which you would not hesitate reaching for, or in other words the “dumb-reach” fragrance. Smells fantastic in the air from the get-go and the dry down is heavenly. I shall not be able to comment on how close it is to Absolu Aventus as I am too broke and poor to be able to afford that. It may not be blind-buy worthy and can give it a shot by buy a sample. But either way the value for money it provides is the best in my collection. Even if you overspray, your wallet won’t feel the pinch although the same can not be said for your neighbours as it’s projection and longeivity is pretty good. Rating- 9/10

8. Club de Nuit Intense Man EDP- First clone of Aventus that I bought. Apart from the harsh citrusy opening it is a good value for money fragrance. The dry down is also nice if you love that genre of fragrances. Rating- 8/10

9. Versace Dylan Blue- Cheap freshie from designer brand which can be used for any casual ocassion. Nothing special but your typical blue fragrance. Rating- 7.5/10

10. Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio EDT- First designer purchase of mine, so it holds a special place in my heart. Good everyday freshie. the DNA has been cloned so much that it holds no special value. But it would ensure that you smell refreshing and clean throughtout it’s longevity. Rating- 8/10

11. Lattafa Khamrah- Bought it for the hype. Good cheapie. if oversprayed it would render a cloying nauseous feeling. Keep it at 4 X Arm’s length during the summer season or make it your dear friend if you want to lose all others. Rating- 5/10

12. Nautica Voyage- Great cheapie for the gym or sport s activities. Cooling cucumber note would help you sail through your sweat comfortably. Rating- 6.5/10

13. Afnan Rare Reef- The second best fresh cheapie. Orange note dominates the opening but as it settles it unravels it’s freshness. Again great value for money. Rating- 8/10

14. Calvin Klein Defy- Don’t have much to say, plain,basic freshie. The quality does not match the asking price in any sense of manner. Rating- 4/10

15. Rayhaan Aquatica- Great creamy, coconuty, citrusy fragrance which imitates the Creed Virgin Island Water nicely. Best fresh cheapie clone in my opinion from the quality and value for money perspective. The scent profile is also refreshing and gorgeous. Rating- 8.5/10

There is one more fragrance which is not there in the pic as I acquired it later.

16. Bleu De Chanel- Now this is what I shall refer to as Mr Dependable. Absolute masterclass of a perfume. Brilliant sillage, projection and most importantly applicabilty. Any season, any reason, any ocassion, this will make sure you smell like a refined savile row suit. It has earned a permanent place not only in my heart but also in my collection.

Rating-10/10

In addition to all of these I have tried out the samples of the holy trinity, Bleu De Chanel, Acqua Di Gio Parfum and YSL Y EDP. In my opinion BDC outclasses all of them (including the ones I own) as an everyday wear for any occassion any reason (maybe a joint first with Armani Code Parfum) with the Acqua DI Gio Parfum coming in as a close second. YSL Y EDP - I am not a big fan because of some unpleasant memories (not right for this sub) while wearing it.

Rating for BDC- 10/10, Acqua Di Gio Parfum- 9.5/10, YSL Y EDP- 7/10.
