Chancenkarte accommodation proof — Is a friend's temporary accommodation letter sufficient?

Hi everyone,

I’m applying for the German Chancenkarte from India and have a German master’s degree from Regensburg Universität.

A friend in Germany has offered to let me stay at his rented apartment in Regensburg along with him for the first 2–3 weeks after my arrival. After that, I’ll find my own accommodation.

I plan to submit an accommodation confirmation letter signed by my friend, stating that I can stay at his address temporarily.

My questions are:

  1. What documents should I obtain from my friend to submit as proof of accommodation?
  2. Is a signed accommodation confirmation letter and his Meldebescheinigung sufficient?
  3. Should I also submit a copy of his passport/ID, residence permit, or rental agreement?
  4. Has anyone submitted similar documents for the Chancenkarte? Were any additional documents requested?

I’d appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through this process. Thanks!

Has anyone applied for an initial 6-month Chancenkarte and then extended it inside Germany?

Hi everyone,

I’m preparing my documents to apply for the Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) at VFS in India. I hold a German Master’s degree, so I qualify directly under the skilled worker pathway (§ 20a AufenthG).

To keep my initial blocked account requirement lower, I am planning to request an initial 6-month visa duration on my VIDEX form and submit a blocked account covering 6 months at €1,091/month (€6,546 total).

Since I have prior experience working part-time jobs during my Master's studies in Germany, my plan is to work a part-time job upon arrival while searching for qualified embedded engineering roles (or applying to Master's programs). When extending for the remaining 6 months at the local Ausländerbehörde around Month 5, I intend to show my ongoing part-time contract + payslips, along with a top-up blocked account to cover any remaining financial deficit up to the required monthly limit.

Before locking this in, I'd love to hear from you guys if this is possible or if it's only for a year(12 months).
