What ESP to get for Bermuda BLE

What ESP to get for Bermuda BLE

I'm constantly searching for one of my cats in my house. She's deaf so she's not responding to my calls and I get confused on where she is. She loves to sleep in places out of sight. So I want to use Bermuda but since I never did any real ESP projects, I thought I'd ask here.

The Bermuda BLE project is using ESPhome inside Home Assistant to find out what bluetooth device is in what room. That seems like the right thing for my situation. Attach a BLE device to my cat, and Home Assistant knows where my cat is.

Here is the project I found:

I'm just confused on what ESP to get.

I found these that aren't that expensive. I think that might work. I'm not sure.

ESP-32S ESP32 ESPWROOM32

The problem is that it comes in several different versions and from googling, it appears that these are USB to serial conversions inside the ESP32.

CH9102 Micro

CP2102 Micro

CP2102 Type-C

CP2102 Micro

CH340 Type-C

I want Type-C because it's 2026 and I don't even have any Micro cables. But what else should I look for?

I'm planning on putting one in each room and only use it for Bermuda BLE.

I tried Googling it but couldn't find a site that's explaining it to me. My employer blocked AI on all computers so I can't ask that.

DS1817+ Not upgrading

Hi,

I'm stuck on 7.1.1 on my NAS. Automatic update says there are no upgrades and I often check. So today I ended up checking the site and it appears there are a bunch of upgrades.

I downloaded the latest version called "DSM_DS1817+_90080.pat" But it refuses to install.

I did a few reboots, but that doesn't solve it either. It just says "Uploading file, please wait". Meanwhile, in the backend, it does this on journalctl -e. On /var/log nothing changes.

Trakt Oath token was invalid

Hi, I need some help.

Every time I try to add Trakt I get this message:

Received oauth token was invalid.

The authentication with Trakt just isn't working. I'm trying to setup Radarr and I just can't get through this part.

Any help would be appreciated.

I was wondering if this idea might work.

I got a custom bike that has been a bit problematic. The output of the stator is extremely limited which is a problem. When driving, if the lights are on it's fine but the moment I start charging my phone, the battery is going to be depleted. So it's barely able to keep up which is normal for this engine model which is based on a vintage engine. Can't change it, I wish I could. If my memory serves me right, the max output is 12V 50W 4.16A. Even with LED lights it's not great, not great at all. I also want to run fans on the oil cooler, android auto etc.

The stator has two different windings (not physically connected) and I'd like to use both but I don't know if it's possible. So I was thinking about doing something like I've tried to put down in the image. Both windings are separate. One is designed for incandescent lights on AC, the other to be used with a rectifier regulator to DC to charge the battery. Both share the same ground return path through the engine block and frame. So two different AC sources with the same ground return path.

My idea is to use both. The white winding for the battery goes to the regulator rectifier, to a 30A fuse, to a schottky diode, to the battery. The yellow winding does exactly the same, but to a different regulator rectifier, different 30A fuse, different schottky diode, but to the same battery.

If this works and doesn't let out all the smoke, then this should (roughly) double the amps I'm able to generate, I hope?

Is this actually a workable solution or am I missing something? I've built a ton of wiring looms for different bikes but this is a bit different.

I hope to get some feedback.
