Dilemma regarding which Branch to choose

Dear Respected Seniors I am in a dilemma of choosing between:-

  1. BIT Mesra ECE/EEE

  2. NIT Jamshedpur Metallurgy/Production/Civil

My profile is:-

10th: 86.4%

12th: 89%

Jee main crl: 47k

Category: OBC-NCL Male

Homestate: Jharkhand

My future plan is to do an MBA from a top IIM after my Btech. In my opinion I will list down the pros and cons of both the Institutes.

NIT Jamshedpur Metallurgy/Production/Civil(Pros):

  1. The prestigious NIT tag which will be of great value in my cv for IIM interviews.

  2. Very low fees(8 lakh for the whole btech course including hostels)

  3. Extremely competitive peer group as cutoffs of NIT Jamshedpur are extremely high.

  4. 100 percent placement in many branches especially Metallurgy.

  5. Metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur is an easy branch so I will have lots of time for CAT Preparation.

  6. I am sure I will crack a 12lpa job in Nit Jamshedpur metallurgy branch.

  7. Through NIT Jamshedpur metallurgy I will be placed in small cost effective cities(Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Kharagpur, Balasore)where the cost of living is far lesser than Mumbai and Bangalore. Even a 12lpa package in these small cities will be equivalent to 20 lpa package in tier 1 cities like Bangalore and Mumbai.

  8. As the cost of living is less in these tier 3 cities I will be saving more or less the same in these small cities.

  9. Through Metallurgy I will be placed in well know prestigious companies like Tata Steel, Tata Power, JSW, Vedanta, etc which will upskill my cv.

  10. The work experience at these metallurgy companies will be more relevant than working in IT companies as a coder because here I will have more supervisor work and execution work rather than just sitting at a table and coding.

  11. The working hours in the core steel companies are fixed but in IT there is no fixed hours and it could hamper my cat preparation.

  12. These tier 3 cities have less rent and less traffic problem so I will safe time in travelling from office to home.

NIT Jamshedpur metallurgy/Production/Civil Cons:

  1. Low initial packages

  2. Lesser opportunities of company switch

  3. Lesser salary hike compared to IT industry

  4. Very limited opportunity to sit for Tech companies in placement.

  5. Higher studies are a must not optional.

BIT Mesra ECE/EEE Pros:

  1. Excellent reputation and No.1 GFTI

  2. Top companies come for placement like Google, Meta, Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, Amazon and many more.

  3. I will be eligible to apply for all these legendary companies because ECE and EEE branches are also allowed.

  4. It's my home. My father works at BIT Mesra and I have stayed inside the campus in staff quarters for over 15 years.

  5. I will be given 20% fees waiver on tution fees as my father is an employee.

  6. The average package for ECE branch is 15 lpa.

  7. Huge campus(780 acres) and great sports facilities.

  8. No need to take hostel has I have my home inside campus.

BIT Mesra ECE/EEE Cons:

  1. These branches are extremely tough and I won't get time to study for Cat.

  2. Despite 20% scholarship the fees would still be high around 16 lakhs.

  3. Maintaing a high cgpa would be tough here in ece and EEE.(High CGPA is very important in MBA).

  4. I will get placed in tier 1 cities where cost of living is High and travelling time is long from office to home due to traffic. SO Less time to study for cat.

  5. Also the placement percentage in ECE and EEE is not that high around (60-70%).

So I request you all respected seniors, industry professionals and teachers please guide me. Please help.
