I've made 3k from doing research studies/surveys this year, is this taxable?

I am not sure whether we need to report this to the ATO. Is it considered taxable income, as I don't work for anyone doing these studies, and I pick the ones I enjoy?

If I don't report, is that fine, or does this need to be reported?

Also, what would happen if I do report, but technically I wasn't meant to? Will the ATO let me know that I should not have reported it, and provide me a refund for over-reporting? It took me a long time to earn that 3k, so to need to pay tax on top of that seems unrealistic, and I will not be doing more of them next year if we needed to pay tax on it.

I am 19 and earned 30k this year, excluding the surveys, so I am above the tax-free threshold. I was wondering whether the 3k I've earned from doing the studies is taxable? I make less than minimum wage doing them. Any expertise on this would be appreciated, as I do not want to get in trouble with the ATO.

Also, if I don't report it, as I genuinely believe it's a hobby, and I am not employed completing them, but technically I was meant to, would I get fined by the ATO or would they tell me to just amend my return ? I want to report it, if I am meant to report it. However, I do not want to report it if we are not meant to, as if I report it and I wasn't meant to, will the ATO let me know that I wasn't meant to and provide me a refund for reporting it and paying tax on it, or will they not mention anything about it and keep my money? I hope that makes sense.

If anyone has been in my scenario before, please let me know how to approach this. Thanks!

Australia TAX time - Are income assessable from prolific, and how do we report it?

Has anyone from Australia included prolific income in their tax return before? If so, do we put the income we cashed out within the financial year, or the amount earned on prolific within the financial year, regardless of whether or not we cashed out?

And can this be considered a hobby, and thus there is no need to report?

I am making way under minimum wage on prolific, so it will be sad to see my 5k earnings from prolific be taxed to even less. I want to know whether this is taxable, I will contact the ATO on the weekday to know more.

  1. What degree was your bachelor and which uni?
  2. What was your WAM/GPA?
  3. Which uni did you get into?

If you could share these information, so I can get a brief idea of how competitive it is, that would be greatly appreciated!!!

20k DHHF, 2.5k NDQ, 2.5K GHHF- Should I buy only GHHF from here on now?

I am 20 years old, and that's my current portfolio, with a return of 11% to date. I started investing early this year. I was wondering whether to allocate my future investments into GHHF, or keep going with DHHF? I'm planning to FIRE by 45-50. I have 30k more to put in the market, and don't know whether to lump sum or DCA. Apart from the 30k, I have an extra 30k as well in a HISA.

Any guidance would be appreciated, I will take the advice, knowing that most of you aren't financial advisers, and thus I should use your advice with caution to guide my own decision!

How much do you make a year studying full time?

I'm an upcoming international student, and want to get an idea of how much students are able to make while managing a full time study load? If you could share how you make a year as a full time student, that would be great!

Anyone else spend their prolific money on gambling?

I've been gambling all my prolific money away for fun, and see it as a non-guilt way of sportsbetting or going to the casino. Anyone else spends it on gambling?

Would you get deducted marks in assignment for 2 spelling errors in a 1000 word essay? 😭

I just submitted an essay and realised I made 2 errors and can't get over it. I have OCD so unfortunately I won't be able to have a good sleep tonight as I can't stop thinking about it. Coupled with my ADHD, which lead me to submit the assignment 1 minute before the due date, and thus I did not have time to go over the essay thoroughly. But like always, I for whatever reason, check over my assignment once I submitted it, and get stressed when I see an error, wishing I start doing the assignment an hour earlier so I can have avoided that mistake. Help mee!!

The top band says no/minimal spelling or grammar mistakes, so would I still be in the top band?

FYI: I spelt excretion instead of exertion, and phosphorlyse instead of phosphorylase 😭😭😭

The assignment is worth 40% of our overall grade, and the spelling section is worth 5 marks., and I wanted to ace it. 😭😭😭

Looking to invest 25+ years. Should I go for DHHF or GHHF?

I currently have 20k in DHHF, and 5k in GHHF. Should I start buying only GHHF from here on now, and I have 25k TO LUMP SUM. Should I put 25k now in this current market?

Elite EXP 90 vs Elite USA 90 - Why does one have knurling and not the other!

Why does the Elite USA 90 come with the knurled handles, but the Elite Exp 90 come with the rubber? What's so difficult, that powerblock don't want to change the Elite Exp 90 to knurled handles? Can someone explain the logic?

I'm 20. I won't be earning a high income job (i.e., 150k+ AUD). Will my early investments save me?

Current net worth:

Super: 8k
Investment: 95k (80% DHHF, 10% GHHF, 10% NDQ)
HISA (5.35% PA): 2k

I currently live with my parents, and I'm studying a degree in biomedicine (full-time) and plan to do further studies in an allied health field, so I have around 3-4 years of study left. I currently earn around 30-35k a year. But I will be earning less than that once I do my masters, due to placements and the intensity of the course.

I've been putting around 2k a month into my investments, as I believe in compound interest!

Is this a good start?
