is “Irish Summer” still a thing?

when I was an undergrad at Cal, every summer, we’d get a bunch of exchange students from Ireland, who’d come stay at the frat houses and take summer classes. is that still a thing?

I hate how people’s perceptions of “sex work” boils down to self-employed OF models and not the working class/Global South women who are brutally trafficked across continents, beaten, and raped

I think the terminology “Sex Work” kind of plays into this. the majority of “sex workers” are not Western, petite-bourgeois women who start OF pages during their off-hours at their regular full-time jobs. when I think of “sex workers”, I think of the reality: downtrodden women from countries ravaged by imperialism (in particular, South East Asia, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe), who are moved across borders in container ships, freight rail, or semi trucks, where they are forced to serve johns against their will. we need to reinforce the notion that this is what “sex work” really is.

How common are ethnic enclaves in American cities?

I’ve heard of a few cases here and there (Williamsburg NY for orthodox Jews, Frisco TX for Indians, Glendale CA for Armenians, Daly City CA for Filipinos), but do these exist in every city? does each city have enclaves for certain immigrant groups?

I know Chinatowns are fairly common - what about for other immigrant groups?

“I don’t trust people who don’t like dogs”

why are you judging trustworthiness based on whether someone likes an animal or not? are you four years old?

doesn’t lifting a truck kind of defeat the purpose of having a truck?

it makes the truck bed more inaccessible and hence makes loading difficult. it also reduces towing capacity. what’s the point of even having a truck then? from my perspective it actually feels like it makes more sense to lower a truck than to lift it.
