Anyone going to MUN?

Heading to MUN in the fall for the marine engineering and was simply wondering if anyone else was also going- it'll all be a little new to me since I live out of province so just wanted to reach out to see if anyone else was going :)

How realistic is doing piano as a side job/hobby?

So, I'm currently a University student but I'm not studying music/performance. That being said, it has been a sort of goal/passion of mine to incorporate or at least include piano performance into my adult life. I've always been interested in doing 'small' or casual local gigs (Weddings, church accompaniments, etc etc.) but I would not have any musical education (Post-secondary, at least).

I was formally / classically trained since the age of 5 and have done a few ensembles and two musicals so I have a LITTLE experience with such things, but I know that getting gigs is usually a very competitive business so I'm probably just too underqualified, but does anyone else have experience just doing small gigs or jobs as a sort of side thing? How do you really get into it?

State of Marine engineering / career

Canadian senior here who may be planning to study marine engineering in the fall! I just needed the opinions of people who are actually in the field because lately I've been hearing a lot from parents about how I should switch majors because the field is in danger because of global warming or because they're afraid that my social life will be completely shot once I get a job in this industry.

I am genuinely interested in the industry but can admit am still a little hesitant so just generally - how are things actually like for marine engineering today? Anything from the demand and how it's like to balance social life nowadays (since most sources I'm looking at online are a little old, or I'm not looking in the right places..) the pros and cons - how transferable the skills are. How easy it is to switch between onboard and off shore??

A lot of questions, but I'll take literally any opinions about how it is being a marine engineer is nowadays to do a little more thinking before I choose what to study. :)

How to interact with more emotional/intense people?

I've begun noticing lately that a lot of my friends are a lot more passionate/emotional than I am. This is, of course, nothing against them. I actually love this about a lot of my friends and am always glad to see them expressing themselves so openly when I am around them. They can get into heated rants about things they believe in and a lot of them can be described as the 'life of the party' as the saying goes. Very lively.

The more time I spend around them, the more I have to see myself as very 'cold' in comparison. I definitely don't show even a bit as enthusiastic as them and often find myself even distancing myself away from them or feeling uncomfortable when things get 'intense' (whether it be during happy moments or arguments).

I genuinely don't know why I feel like this because it's definitely not something against any of them personally. I think that perhaps I'm just not that emotionally intelligent, or I just have a super easily drainable social battery. Or both. I don't know. This isn't to say I don't show any emotions at all- I can say that I am decently comfortable at expressing myself when I need to- just more briefly and I tend to shutdown easily.

Thing is, lately I've been told by a friend that I never seem as 'interested' or that I do not reciprocate emotionally in friendships. Is there any way I can work on this?

Favourite death/scene?

Just finished the game and was wondering what everyone's favourite deaths and scenes are.

Personally have to say one of mine would be the death of that one guy who got shot on the port walk- not exactly for the death itself but because it was essentially the first introduction to the crab people (not sure if they have a name). Basically freaked tf out when I looked through the window lol. Like the kraken monster, sure. happens all the time in marine-related stories. But whatever those giant spider-crab rider monsters were??? absolutely wild. spent maybe a good minute just staring at it.

Would love to see any other scenes people got a kick out of!

What happened to war horses?

Did war horses ever retire after they reached a certain age or if they were injured, or were they mostly worked to death/killed at the end of their service? Any instances of, say a calvalryman, taking in their war horse?

Been reading a bit about medieval/modern warfare and was a little curious about this. What was the first reactions like to the use of the creation of guns/firearms (or at least what is closest to our present-day ones and not like, cannons). How well regarded were they as weapons in battle at first? When exactly/what exactly contributed to the transition between the favor of weapons like bows, swords and cannons to firearms? I'd figure the transition was likely more gradual alongside technological development but I was wondering if there was any specific incident or battle or period/development that really started convincing people to use them more in fights.

I'll be heading to college in the fall and likely won't get the opportunity to play as much anymore. Been playing for a little more than a decade since I was younger but I'm scared of losing my touch if you will. Anyone have any tips on keeping up with playing and/or piano between what will likely be large gaps of breaks (months - 1 year)?

I will also mention that I mostly play for fun nowadays. Done all the theory and classical music but now spend most of my time only playing pieces I like, so I guess there's nothing really on the line, but I'd like to keep playing!!
