I'm writing a short story about a couple scientists and occult and stuff and I need some advice to make my characters feel smart. I've been stuck in this loop of the scientist doing something smart to get out of the situation but cultists overpowering them again and again and again but I feel that takes away from the feeling of them being smart yk what I mean. Just give me some general tips on how you do this <3

It's clear to me that noone would care about this topic ever other than to make fun of it, so I don't expect much productive answers. But I do know for a fact that you guys know about this topic more than anyone on this app, so I might as well give another shot to improvement before I give up.
