Any experience teaching Comp 11?

First year teacher here. I was just assigned one block of Composition 11. I have no experience teaching higher level ELA and was wondering if anyone has any advice/resources to offer up.

Do I just focus on writing or can I fit in any lit study units etc? Not sure what I can get away with teaching units that aren’t entirely focused on forms of composition.

any suggestions are helpful:)

Whats the deal with the word modified?

First time doing report cards here.

I thought the word 'modified' was the more appropriate word to use for students that are engaging in material not at grade level.

Just got notified from admin that I need to remove the words altogether even though LSP said it was ok.

Someone enlighten me.

Cracked and flaking skin only on thumb could this be eczema?

last summer I got a nasty cut on my thumb which led to a whole summer of trying to keep the cut from getting infected since it would always open being on the pad of my thumb. the skin would always dry out before flaking and lifting off my skin. this lasted from May-August of last year. by the end of the summer I was told either contact dermatitis or eczema.

then it disappeared and my thumb healed miraculously over a couple of days as if the previous three months of having a necrotic thumb never happened.

last week I noticed a rlly dry patch on the same thumb in the exact same spot below my nail. the skin split to what looked like a minor cut but has now turned into it looked like last summer. the picture posted is basically as good as it looks but soon all the missing skin will travel at least another inch down my thumb. it is only painful since the skin is so thin.

clear liquid does come out sometimes as but I try my best to keep it dry.

some please help before I have to go through this again this summer.

***this is not an allergic reaction to getting my nails done is this has happened before with bare nails

Thoughts on Ontario's decision to mandate final exams?

When I was in school to be a teacher I felt that final exams were evil and non inclusive.

I felt that we shouldn't penalize students on attendance since we have no way of knowing whats happening in their personal lives.

Rose tinted glasses for basically my entire outlook on education.

Now that Im in the thick of my first year teaching I've gone back on all these opinions. I dont think Im jaded (yet) and I quite enjoy my job- however the lack of accountability from these students makes my head spin and I hope BC follows suit especially with making attendance part of the overall mark.

Thoughts?

Feeling very discouraged

I have been at a school since January and staying until end of the year covering for a mat leave. Everyone told me that i would automatically get a year long contract for the following school year (the same mat leave) since I know the kids and have been subbing at the school for quite some time and have built great report with staff. I found out today that all my classes are being given to a teacher thats coming back from a leave- he actually told me himself as he heard people telling me I was going to be rehired for September (I guess he pitied me which is embarrassing to think about).

Apparently most teachers knew this and were just leading me on? Cant help but feel a bit betrayed on top of taken back by the lack of professionalism that the staff were willing to tell me something that wasnt true.

I never got my hopes up too high since nothing official happened but damn I really thought I was gonna get my big break.

Does it really have nothing to do with me or am I that delusional?
