Successfully lowered cholesterol in 6 months.
Hi I just wanted to share this small ‘win’.
In January was diagnosed with high cholesterol. Switched to a vegan plant based diet and it’s now dropped 2 points. I wanted to share this in the midst of ‘high protein’ era we seem to be living through.
My diet change which I attribute the drop to are actually easy and sustainable so I’ve been sharing them with my meat eating friends is: a can of beans a day, my easiest recipe which makes two meals is any canned beans (I love red 🫘), smoked tempeh and olive oil with walnuts or pecans. Even some dried cranberries for sweetness. Lidl have flavoured vinaigrette salad beans, or I make mashed butter beans instead of potatoes. Honestly it’s such a lazy easy meal I don’t know why more people don’t eat them.
Obviously cutting all animal products. I also cut processed sweet treats and switched entirely to dates, peanut butter and dark chocolate. Making those energy bars at home or having hot chocolate. I have a sweet tooth and I wasn’t going to give that up. Switching oils over to Olive or rapeseed (I hate the hate around seed oils, a family member is 94 and always used rapeseed oil).
Basically lots and lots of tofu, scrambled tofu, fried tofu, Lidl have been amazing with their selection. Smoked Tempeh would easily convert any meat eater.
I really don’t understand how people can say they can’t be full on a vegan diet. I’m a lazy lazy cook and easily do gluten free vegan too.
Anyway sorry if this is long, it’s such a huge win as at 40, high cholesterol is not to be messed with 🙏
