Successfully lowered cholesterol in 6 months.

Hi I just wanted to share this small ‘win’.

In January was diagnosed with high cholesterol. Switched to a vegan plant based diet and it’s now dropped 2 points. I wanted to share this in the midst of ‘high protein’ era we seem to be living through.

My diet change which I attribute the drop to are actually easy and sustainable so I’ve been sharing them with my meat eating friends is: a can of beans a day, my easiest recipe which makes two meals is any canned beans (I love red 🫘), smoked tempeh and olive oil with walnuts or pecans. Even some dried cranberries for sweetness. Lidl have flavoured vinaigrette salad beans, or I make mashed butter beans instead of potatoes. Honestly it’s such a lazy easy meal I don’t know why more people don’t eat them.

Obviously cutting all animal products. I also cut processed sweet treats and switched entirely to dates, peanut butter and dark chocolate. Making those energy bars at home or having hot chocolate. I have a sweet tooth and I wasn’t going to give that up. Switching oils over to Olive or rapeseed (I hate the hate around seed oils, a family member is 94 and always used rapeseed oil).

Basically lots and lots of tofu, scrambled tofu, fried tofu, Lidl have been amazing with their selection. Smoked Tempeh would easily convert any meat eater.

I really don’t understand how people can say they can’t be full on a vegan diet. I’m a lazy lazy cook and easily do gluten free vegan too.

Anyway sorry if this is long, it’s such a huge win as at 40, high cholesterol is not to be messed with 🙏

What do we want to see in Courtney’s new artistic direction?

Hive mind. Thought we could share what we’re hoping to see or wish to see in this new era for her?

I personally am hoping the new album is stripped back Johnny Cash style but I know it won’t be. I’m hoping the book is full of all the exciting lives she lead prior to hole with lots of unseen photos. And I hope it sees the fucking light of day.

Style wise, she looks so healthy. But I’m wondering if she’ll work with a stylist for a new aesthetic for this release.

Thoughts?

Vegan tempeh ‘beef’ ragu.

Hi 👋 an accidental recipe last night that might help some of the tempeh hesitant friends. Picked up the block from Lidl, cut it into medallions and made the most amazing thick tomato ragu with only bare minimum cupboard ingredients. Please be aware these are rough measurements so you can perfect your own recipe to taste!

• fry tempeh in medallions until brown with oil and plenty of soy sauce
• fry some onions & garlic in a separate large pan
• blitz in a food processor (or use pasata) a tin of plum tomato’s with itallian herb seasoning and lots of oregano. Add 1-2 tbsp of black strap molasses.
• add to the large pan with the fried onions and garlic to cook through.
• chop the tempeh into squares and add the sauce. If you want to fill it out further I added walnuts. I find it easier to cook as medallions and chop later.
• a tablespoon of cornstarch or milled chia to thicken.

Serve with pasta and some vegan cheese optional.

Honestly it’s so good and the richest tomato sauce I’ve tried. Blackstrap molasses is sat on I feel within tomato sauces and gives an extra iron and copper boost.

Sorry no pics, I demolished it 😭 🫶

Just thought I’d ask what everyone’s favourite recent purchases have been?

I’ve really been enjoying the Naturium body oil — picked it up in the Boots sale and it’s absolutely lovely. It’s not sticky at all and the scent is really nice. Would probably invest in a full price bottle in the future but save for nights out.

I’ve also been using the Vaseline Essential Healing body lotion. I love the smell of this one and it’s such an easy, lightweight moisturiser to throw on after a shower. Boyes seems to stock it quite cheaply too, think it’s current £1.89.

Another favourite has been the Garnier Factor 50 Matte Serum. Someone else on this sub recommended it and I’ve been really impressed with it for the price point.

Lastly, the Eucerin Urea Repair Intensive Moisturiser has been a total godsend. I damaged my skin barrier from overusing Epiduo and this has helped so much. I’ve been using it on both my hands and face, and it’s also been incredible for eczema.
