Can I ask why the majority of players choose to make their bases in barns, warehouses, industrial buildings, rather than houses?

I'm just genuinely curious about the perks to making a base in those venues.

Is anyone else having a hard time finding servers today? I've tried with Solo Voyage and Small Teams Voyage and have not been able to get on a server.
