What's the situation between D & L?

I'm actually asking if they are together, if they were together and now they broke up, or what's their any relationship like in general. Ship - Dog - Whip

What I understand from dog and whipe, is like their friendship is not doing well. But what about the ship? Like talking about a friendship that goes??? Breaks? Going places? I don't get it. And of course I'd like you to tell me if this is a relationship that goes well or not or whatever you can see. Thank you!
