please rescue this Midcentury modern desk!

This beautiful midcentury desk is part of an online auction in Conroe that ends TONIGHT with local pickup off Crighton Rd. tomorrow Tues., 8/18 and Wed., 8/19. It's currently sitting at 0.00 and it's honestly going to break my heart if it ends up at Goodwill. It's a sturdy boy made of walnut, I believe and my father stained this himself back in the early 60s. It was part of a larger collection that was relocated across the country and I'm now kicking myself for not taking it. Sadly, we didn't have the room in the pod with all of the other things that we needed to move. There are a ton of other lots in the auction as well, but this is the one that will absolutely haunt me.

An 80-year Argus collection is finally being dispersed — thought you folks might appreciate seeing some of it

My dad, Curtis, has been collecting cameras for about 80 years, and while going through everything, I've discovered that his Argus collection is much more extensive than I realized.

There are 37 Argus lots in his current auction, including C3s, lenses, movie cameras, and groups of vintage Argus cameras—and quite a few that I've had to stop and research because I didn't even know they existed.

I'm sharing a few photos here because I figured this would be one of the groups most likely to appreciate them. I don't know much about Argus, but I did have the pleasure of accompanying him to one of the annual meetings of the Argus Collector's Group in Ann Arbor back in 2018 along with a visit to the Argus Museum. It was fun to see my Dad in his element.

The auction ends August 17. (I'm unfortunately unable to link a filtered search directly but it can easily be searched on the auction listings page.) He has a ton of cool cameras of all makes and types. If you're curious, here's the full auction:

My 88-year-old dad has been collecting cameras for 80 years… and I’m finally helping him find them new homes

I helped my Dad go through his collection to pull a few to keep, and I kept finding things I'd never seen before. We culled a collection of thousands down to a few boxes of treasures to keep and he's sending the rest back out into the world to be someone else's next great find.

There are 395 lots in the auction, with everything from Argus, Kodak, Canon, Yashica, Hasselblad, Pentax and Minolta to some wonderfully obscure cameras. There are also a lot of miniature and subminiature cameras, stereoscopic cameras, TLRs, movie cameras, and vintage photography equipment.

I'm sharing this here because I figured the people in this group might actually appreciate seeing some of the oddball stuff we've uncovered. I've included a few photos of some of my favorites. I love the Art Deco feel of the Kodak Bantams, myself.

Full disclosure: I'm helping my dad sell the collection, so this is an auction we're involved with. But I'm genuinely curious what the collectors here would think of some of these pieces. Anything you've never seen before?

The auction is currently live through CTBids and ends August 17:

If you see something particularly interesting, I'd love to hear about it!
