ARK: Survival Ascended is now 328 GB, and a single .ucas file is 154 GB of it. C'mon Wildcard, learn to use compression.
Not a rage post — 210 hours in, I like the game. But I finally checked why my SSD was dying and it's genuinely absurd.
WizTree scan:
- ARK: Survival Ascended total: 328.5 GB
pakchunk0-Windows.ucas: 154.4 GB — one single file- All
.ucasassets: ~290 GB (81% of my entire used disk space)
Genesis just added another 80 GB on auto-update, for a map that already existed in ASE. And because it's all packed into one giant chunk, there's no way to selectively uninstall the bulk. Cyberpunk fits its whole city in ~110 GB.
Not everyone has a spare 2TB SSD to hand over to a single game. And let's be real — this has been a problem since the first ARK. Years later, still no fix.
C'mon Wildcard — learn to use file compression. This is a solved problem in 2026.
Anyone else hitting this? Has WC said anything about compression on the roadmap?
