Feature Request: Close Tabs Directly from Dia’s Tab Preview
I’ve been using Dia and really enjoy the Tab Preview experience (the command-palette style view that shows open tabs, recently closed tabs, history, and bookmarks, similar to the screenshot). After using it for a while, I noticed one small but very useful feature that seems to be missing: the ability to close tabs directly from this preview view.
Right now, Tab Preview helps me:
- Quickly see all open tabs
- See recently closed tabs
- Jump to history, bookmarks, and chats & files
However, when I want to clean up my workspace (especially older or low-priority tabs), I have to:
- Find the tab in the preview list
- Click it to switch to that tab
- Then close it from the sidebar/tab strip
This flow is a bit slow and breaks the focus when I’m trying to do a quick cleanup session.
Feature request
I’d love Tab Preview to support:
- Closing tabs directly from the Open Tabs / Recently Closed / History lists in the preview view.
- This could be implemented as:
- A small
xbutton that appears when hovering over a tab entry, or - A right-click or three-dot context menu with options like “Close tab”, “Close others”, “Close tabs to the right”, etc.
- A small
Why this would help
- Makes tab cleanup much faster from a single, centralized place.
- Reduces context switching between the command-palette view and the sidebar.
- Strengthens the “command palette / spotlight” feeling of Dia: search, navigate, take actions, and clean up — all in one focused interface.
If the Dia team and the community also find this useful, I’d be really happy to see this considered in a future update. It’s a small UI/UX change, but it would make tab management feel much smoother and more powerful.
