I hate kids

I, an adult skater, was skating during a public session yesterday and had a pretty nasty fall.

I was just gliding down the length of the rink when a kid, probably around 12 or 13 yo, suddenly turned around without looking and slammed straight into me. I'm a pretty skinny person so I ended up on the ice and got a few bruises.

He and his friends were playing tag around the rink, yelling, skating fast and weaving around people. It honestly felt like it was only a matter of time before someone got hurt.

I know public sessions are open to everyone, and I don't expect perfect etiquette, but this one caught me completely off guard.

Is it normal for product manager to be your boss?

Recently my engineering manager was fired and all developers now report to the product owner/manager. They said that the old engineering manager focused too much on tech debt, and said that the reorganization would allow them to focus on feature velocity. I guess I'm just uncomfortable having the PO as my manager since they don't understand the technical aspect of my job. The PO is not technical at all. Part of me wonders if this is a tactic the company is using to save money. I work for a marketing agency so maybe it's more common in this space? What do you guys think?

Figure skater looking for casual hockey skate recommendations

Hi guys, I am a figure skater and I usually use figure skates, but I have been thinking about trying hockey skates for fun and would love some recommendations.

I am looking for a casual pair of hockey skates since I will probably only use them about 2 to 3 times a month, with the rest of my skating still being on figure skates.

I am mainly looking for something comfortable, beginner-friendly, and good value for the money. Any recommendations would be awesome. Thanks!

Got fired after a PIP, but at least I got severance

I recently got fired after failing a 30-day PIP at J2.

The good news is that I negotiated about 8 weeks of severance, so I'll still have some money coming in for the next couple of months. I was honestly planning on quitting anyway since I recently reached financial independence, but it was still a bittersweet goodbye.

My new manager wanted me gone ever since he joined, and I guess he finally found his chance to get rid of me. I was put on a PIP and essentially managed out after failing it halfway through.

Honestly, I'm surprised I even got severance, but you live and learn. The whole experience opened my eyes to how quickly things can change at work, especially once leadership decides they want you out.

One thing that really changed how I see corporate life is what happened during the PIP. A coworker that I trusted RATTED me out to my manager while I was already under the PIP, and that ultimately led to me failing the PIP. It was a cruel and cold reminder that coworkers are not your friends, even if things seem friendly on the surface.

Another hard lesson is that managers can act supportive and nice to your face while quietly building a case against you behind the scenes. Looking back, I think the decision had already been made long before the PIP started.

Overall, this whole experience left me feeling disappointed and a lot more cautious about workplace relationships going forward.

It is hard out there, folks. Stay employed.

Is it okay to switch oral surgeons after already starting braces for jaw surgery?

I started braces for double jaw surgery a couple of months ago, but my surgeon said he usually does the actual surgical planning much closer to the surgery date, which is currently scheduled for end of 2026/early 2027. Right now I don't really know what movements he is planning yet.

My concern is what happens if later on I don't like the plan, or I feel like the movements are too small and won't address my jaw recession enough aesthetically or functionally. Is it possible to switch surgeons later in the braces process, or does starting braces kind of lock you into one surgeon? How would I even switch surgeons? Do I need to talk to my ortho and would he need to alter the plan and delay surgery date?
