Chinese Christian Christmas Hong Bao and gift ideas.

I can’t find any tasteful Christian Hong Bao’s for an older woman who believed me, in me and deserves better. Are there any?

The gift idea I have, plus, can afford is:

•a custom image handwritten card (I prefer the Old Testament and she knows it).

•lottery ticket inside a tasteful Christian Hong Bao

•something else if you have an idea.

Also I’m too embarrassed to give this personally. I try to be self reliant cause of childhood stuff and guilt but the only thing I can think to do is uber but I’ve never used that stuff. I also need help with how to deliver.

Thank you.

How would/do Economists fight corruption?

In this case I mean money in politics, institutional, legal etc. I’d love books and papers recommendations too.

Do you think there are white dudes working for the MSS?

You know how people of different backgrounds can join the CIA and are looked for because of genuine intelligence, talent and commitment purposes.

But does that mean the Chinese MSS have a bunch a white dudes working in their organisation? I’m sure the MSS has an amazing talent-pool to choose from and organisational orthodoxy will make it difficult for people of different backgrounds but talent and commitment is still gold. I can imagine neighbouring asian national backgrounds but do you think there are white dudes from Anglo countries in the MSS? And I mean they themselves applied/recruited.

Been reading about other intelligence agencies like India, Vietnam and China and I feel most literature from my experience is either too exorcised or swivel-eyed paranoia.

Making the world better

Tigger warning: Childhood stuff

I’m tired of working for my family that hates me, beat me, kicked me on the ground, slapped me, pulled my hair, pulled my mouth, called me stupid, hated me for going to school, coming home, staying home, working till late, taking the car to work. I want to go to school, I can make the world better.

Most subjects in university don’t intimidate me except work involving maths. I have figured searching previous posts on this subreddit and I need to learn before this next year:

Pre-Algebra Algebra 1 Algebra 2 Geometry Pre-Calculus Calculas 1 Calculas 2 Multivariable Introduction to Proofs and Real Analysis.

Can you please recommend me textbooks or anything that teach these topics with resources for lots of practice. I enjoy and thrive on practice and repetition.

Thank you.

Books that feel like this scene.

https://youtu.be/UWmUp4UXiIw

I feel guilty and embarrassed for failing someone who praised me and helped me, someone I (unfairly) wanted their connection. She knows how I feel, told me she loves me for my own goodness, but I haven’t gotten over it and think of her.

Fiction, nonfiction, philosophical, history, everything welcome. Thank you.

Studying with childhood trauma

Hello everyone. TL;DR I (28M) don’t have friends, I have been hurt by everyone I trusted, 6yo a neighbour and 2 men hurt me, my parents always belittled me, brought up failures, punch, kicked and beat me with objects. I have made mistakes at work and yelled at and singled out.

I have worked soo much of my life for people who don’t even like me and now I want to study and do what I want. I plan to start next year and I am trying to get a study habit and hygiene by studying in the library now that I don’t work anymore.

I have read some every good studying advice from here like “treating it like a 9-5, do it all in the library and get it done before you do anything else, do it consciously and not through the motions.”.

But does anyone have experience and advice on whenever I remember and get distracted by thoughts and memories? Thinking I’m stupid, useless, feeling bad for letting someone I liked and trusted down, making friends.

I would also like to hear success stories from people, it makes me feel better. Thank you everyone.

Edit: If you are a teaching assistant, I’d also love to hear your experience thank you.

The Story of Uzzah

2 Samuel 6:3-8

3 They placed the Ark of God on a new cart and brought it forth from the house of Abinadab, which stood on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart.4 Uzzah walked alongside the Ark of God, with Ahio walking in front. 5 David and the entire house of Israel danced joyfully before the Lordwith all their might, singing to the accompaniment of lyres, harps, tambourines, castanets, and cymbals.
6 When they arrived at the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out his hand to the Ark of God and steadied it because the oxen were stumbling. 7 This aroused the Lord’s anger against Uzzah because of his irreverent act, and he died there beside the Ark of God. 8 David became greatly upset because the Lord had vented his anger against Uzzah, and to this very day that place is called Perez-uzzah.

What does ‘The Story of Uzzah’ mean to you?

Me, I personally really sympathise with Uzzah I wish my life wasn’t soo similar to how Uzzah makes me feel. It is one of my favourite stories.

Unlike most blogs from priests, rabbis, adventists, Catholics, baptists etc.,etc., who either shrug their shoulders or blame Uzzah or David with reasons and details I can’t find in the the book. I want to know what everyone here personally feels about this story.

Me: I was raised as a muslim, on a good day I feel the way Goethe does about god+life and on a bad day I feel like that of Cormac McCarthy/Herman Melville. Today I just walked off from my job because they make me feel unsafe, at home I couldn’t sleep well and I would wrap my belt around my hand and swing it on my back multiple times because I couldn’t stop thinking about work. My neighbour and 2 men hurt me when I was 6, everyone blamed me, my parents hurt me, I just sat home and watched tv. My boss’s 2ic told one thing then lied to me and others afterwards, even asking me “what are you going to do?”. A long time ago I was working low paying hard job, a girl came and told me she is an international student, she was given a place to stay for cheap or free, I can’t remember, the owner attacked her. She asked me for help and I said I didn’t know what to do, I did the wrong thing I should have said yes, I should have asked my parents, my other family, I should have knocked on doors, I knew old ladies and they would’ve helped but I did the wrong thing. And that was it for me, that was the one, I am going to hell and I accept it it is the correct judgment, I do not protest. I personally think Christianity is too forgiving. What happened to Uzzah should’ve happened to me then after the girl left.

My boss is themself, I know, a nice person but at work; a pharaoh.

Thank you for reading and I really want to read all religious views on this story thank you everyone.

Am I understanding Heidegger or should I give up?

•There is you-and-l and then there is everything else.

•You-and-l effect the everything else and everything else affects you-and-l this way or that way, this much or that much, knowingly or unknowingly, intentionally or unintentionally and short-term or long-term. And maybe we don't affect anything.

•What we see is what we get, and we don't even get see all of it thus get all of it, there is nothing more to it, there is no after-life and even if there is one, the experience we have/had 'disqualifies' (strong-word to use but can't think anything else) you-and-l from understanding/comprehending/experiencing/having.

•I don't fully understand what my neighbour's dog (Alex) thinks or experiences, my brain's smelling part isn't as big as Alex's and smell isn't a big way I experience my life, we don't see the worlds colour the same way, we probably don't taste food the same way (in Alex's favour). I speak and understand differently, Alex speaks and understands differently, there is no TECHNOLOGY to bridge the gap and if we try to; it's made up. And this is my neighbour's dog Alex, this also includes every other people.

•How do I tell a blind person the colour purple? This person has been COMPLETELY BLIND his whole life (unrealistic example).

•Remember when in American Psycho everyone is comparing business cards it all said 'Vice President' and maybe even the same phone number (I have to watch again), didn't Hubert Dreyfus say in the 70's that we are not advancing/elevating Al towards 1-to-1 human intelligence/experience, we are instead devolving/degrading ourselves towards and beneath machines. Just like in American Psycho, in a worldview and philosophy where sign, brands, logos, products and objects are prime; a miss-call voice message sounding like Paul Allen saying he went to London means Paul Allen went to London and people go around saying they saw/met Paul Allen in London.

Am I understanding Heidegger or should I give up?

EDIT: I thought this was a sincere sub, but more people then I liked kinda give me recreational-chemotherapists vibes. I’m too sincere for reddit, deleting my account.
