What Makes a Car a Classic?

A while back, we were strolling through rows of vintage cars and trucks at the Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals, when we fell upon a near-pristine 1983 Chevy Cavalier. We loved seeing the tidy GM J-body coupe; yet, we also heard folks express a feeling of melancholy over things like the ever-expanding car field due to the Goodguys’ rolling 25-year eligibility window and the legacy of the post-1970s automobile. It got us to thinking: What defines a classic car. We even wrote an entire article dedicated to that topic on our blog, OnAllCylinders.

What are your thoughts on what truly makes a car a classic?

We asked our customers and social media fans this question recently. Answers, at least on Facebook, ranged from lack of clean title to excessive rust to prices and parts availability. Curious to hear what folks in the Reddit universe have to say.

When we go to shows like Goodguys, we see some pretty amazing engine bay work...custom intakes, engine covers, stainless steel. But, for the everyman build, a little can go a long way. Hobbyists and weekend wrenchers...where do you focus first when sprucing up your engine bay? Here are our thoughts: https://www.onallcylinders.com/2026/07/17/less-equals-more-engine-compartment-detailing-that-makes-a-real-difference/

Monte Carlo Project with a Purpose

One of our latest project builds comes with an ulterior motive. While it was built for all the usual reasons--fun and hijinks--we also set out to prove a point. We wanted to show that aftermarket parts, while adding horsepower, can also mean a cleaner-running vehicle. The goal was simple: double the horsepower, half the emissions. You can follow the build here: https://www.summitracing.com/prodi-g-monte-carlo

Best Road Trip

We just finished up the Hot Rod Power Tour, which covered the Joliet, IL to Tulsa, OK leg of Route 66. We met lots of great people, saw amazing vehicles, and just had a great time all week. What is the best road trip you've ever taken?
