For those suffering because of acne

About a month ago, a user posted a message saying they couldn’t stop crying because of how awful acne was making them feel and that they only wanted to hide at home. I thought I’d share part of what I replied trying to help this user, in case it can help someone else. We can do this! 💪🏻

“I hear you… I’ve spent the last half a year hiding at home, barely going out. I also felt uncomfortable wearing makeup, and I didn’t want people seeing me like this. And even alone, at home, I felt really uncomfortable in my own skin, just like you’re describing.

I started Accutane (10mg daily) 9 weeks ago, and things are a little bit better now (not great, but better). But I 100% get what you’re feeling, because I had the exact same feelings.

I also went through a phase where I didn’t even want to tell my friends about it. But little by little, I started opening up, and it felt so much better than continuing to hide it or making silly excuses not to go out. Now they know, and they’re there for me, understanding what I’m going through. Just imagine a friend in your situation - would you think it’s embarrassing? I don’t think so. You’d just want to support her. But we’re so much harder on ourselves.

As someone who’s gone through the exact same thing (and still is), I’ll share something: I live in a small town, and I don’t feel comfortable running into people I know in daylight, because I think they’ll just see my acne and scars. So I get around by bike everywhere - it makes it easier to avoid running into people 😂 I’d really recommend talking to a good friend or two about it, telling them how you feel. They’ll understand and support you, and most important, it will make you feel a little better.

Also, since you’re in this kind of “withdrawal” phase, I’d recommend trying to use this time for yourself - to make or learn things you probably wouldn’t have time for otherwise. Over the last few months I’ve read more books than ever, done 30 minutes of vinyasa yoga every day, and started learning piano - first months on my own, and I’ve been going to lessons every two weeks now. Tomorrow I’m starting French lessons too. This way, I force myself to go out, even if it’s just a five-minute bike ride to the teacher’s place. I’ve also started visiting a bookshop in town to browse books in person and ask the seller for recommendations - just enjoying the moment. I’m going today again and I’m actually looking forward to it. These people don’t know me, so I don’t feel as self-conscious around them.

I know how hard what you’re going through is. But things will get better, you’ll see. It’s a slow process - skin needs time to heal - but it will heal. We have to try to be kind to ourselves while going through something like this, instead of being our own worst judge. Talk to yourself the way you’d talk to your own daughter or little sister, with love and patience. And in the meantime, treat this “withdrawal” time as a retreat where you can nurture yourself.”

Li Pigments Australia

Did anyone had a successful experience removing Li Pigment (Australian brand)? This is their website: https://lipigments.com.au/.

I don’t really understand much about ingredients and all that so I’m not sure if it’s good or bad new finding out this was the pigment my artist used (she just confirmed this to me) and if a laser will successfully remove it or not…

Any help/experience will be suuuuuper helpful and highly appreciated :)

Advice please!

I did my first (and only) microblading session in 2021. Over time it faded, but it left behind a reddish tone that just won’t go away completely. I’m considering laser removal, but I’m scared of ending up with a bad result — especially the pigment shifting to a new color and getting “stuck” that way, possibly looking worse than now.

Has anyone here successfully removed the red pigment completely? I’m not sure even if it’s possible.. But if someone had a successful experience, I’d like to ask:

  1. How many sessions did it take?
  2. Which laser did you use?
  3. Did the color change to something else before it fully disappeared?
  4. Any recommendations? I
  5. just would like to avoid surprises…

I’ve also gotten in touch with the clinic where I did the microblading in 2021 to ask about the pigment they used, in case this is helpful…

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

Also, if someone has had a successful experience removing it in a clinic in Spain, where I currently live, I’d be happy to hear about the clinic ❤️

Any 10mg/day experiences?

I just hit 9 weeks on 10mg/day and even though I’d say my skin is better than at the start, I’m still getting quite inflamed pimples from old comedones I think… At the moment I only have two active pimples (inflamed ones though) but I do have quite a bit of PIE that makes harder to watch the progress… Can’t wait to finish the course in order to start treating the PIE!

Anyway, I’d like to know the experience of those who took 10mg/day: when did you really start seeing the results?

Moisturizer concern - Avene Tolerance Control Soothing Repair Balm

So I’m on day 33 of 10mg/daily Accutane + 50mg/daily Spiro (I’ve only been for a week on spiro, after finishing a 4 week prednisone course) and my skin is starting to look super dry after putting on the tinted SPF I’m using. My derm didn’t really recommend me a proper/very hydrating moisturizer, the topical treatment she indicated I should follow (and I am following) is this:

MORNING SKINCARE

1. Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant: gentle cleanser, respects skin barrier.
2. ZO Skin Oil Control Pads: (¼ pad) exfoliating toner with salicylic, mandelic and glycolic acid. Controls sebum and renews skin.
3. Alternating daily:
*Odd days: AllSkin Med Mattifying Gel Cream. Niacinamide, tranexamic acid and retinol. Controls shine and targets PIH.
*Even days: Anua Azelaic Acid. Anti-inflammatory, depigmenting and mild antifungal.
4. SPF50 (mandatory sun protection). I’m using Colorescience Flex SPF.

I asked my derm if I could use the moisturizer I was using (La Roche Posay Toleriane Sensitive Fluide) after the azelaic acid on the even days. She said yes so so I’m also using it as well on alternative days.

NIGHT SKINCARE

1. Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant. If I use SPF or make up, I first use Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water first.
2. ZO Skin Oil Control Pads, same as morning.
3. AllSkin Med Advanced Renewal Serum: retinol level 1 + vitamin C + niacinamide. Deep skin renewal and PIH treatment overnight. I started using this only twice a week, then 3 times a week and now every day.

My skin is doing well I think, still with a couple of bumps but similar, if not lighter, to what I had before Accutane. I’d even say that my skin has started to look a bit better than before already.

However, when applying the tinted SPF of Colorescience, my skin has recently started to look super dry with it. This same SPF looked pretty great at the start of treatment. So I asked my derm if I could use an extra hydrating moisturizer and her assistant answered saying “we generally don’t recommend applying anything extra to the prescribed treatment, but if you notice a lot of dehydration, our favourite is this one: Avène Tolerance Control Soothing Skin Balm”.

Anyone has used this moisturizer during Accutane treatment? I’m worried it might clog my pores / worsen my acne / or build up clog pores that might appear after finishing my Accutane course, since it has shea butter, beeswax… Although I do suspect my acne was triggered by an intense period of emotional stress…

Anyway, here the complete ingredient list:

AVÈNE THERMAL SPRING WATER, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, GLYCERIN, CETEARYL ALCOHL, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, SQUALANE, BEESWAX, CETEARYL GLUCOSIDE, CETYL ESTERS, AQUAPHILUS DOLOMIAE EXTRACT FILTRATE, ARGININE, CITRIC ACID, TROMETHAMINE, WATER, XANTHAN GUM.

Would love to hear what you think or experience with it!

Thanks in advance :)
