Advice for breaking into the field
I'm a PhD candidate with about 1-1.5 years left before graduation. I'm studying immunology and vaccine development, with a bachelors in Animal Sciences. I have research experience in immunology, microbiology, meat science, and reproduction. I wanted to pursue being a patent agent and possibly law school if I can find a firm that will help fund it. I'd be willing to move almost anywhere in the country once I graduate.
I've been seeing that the field is incredibly difficult to break into right now if you arent CS or EE. Do you think more law firms will want life science PhDs by the time I graduate? What would you recommend for me to do now to have the best chance at finding a job as a patent agent or technical specialist (do you recommend passing the patent bar before applying to positions)? How would you recommend I contact patent attorneys to ask questions?
