[S2] PSA: rolling back NVIDIA drivers finally fixed my performance issues!

I recently did a DDU to fix some crashes in CP2077. After a clean install of the latest (596.21 and newer) NVIDIA drivers, which I had updated to before via the NVIDIA app, I experienced substantial performance decreases in some games.

STALKER 2 went from 80-100 fps before to 50-60 fps.

Today I did another DDU of the current drivers and installed version 576.88. My performance is now finally back to its former glory!

This might be interesting to some of you.

Hardware:

  • 4070 12gb, 5800x3d, 64gb @ 3200mhz
  • 1440p, Win10

DDU clean install of nvidia drivers caused issues.

I am at my wit's end.

In order to fix some crashes in CP2077 I did a DDU of my nvidia drivers (far from my first time).

After a clean install of the latest drivers, my FPS in my two GPU heavy main games STALKER 2 and Cyberpunk 2077, I get significantly worse FPS.

CP2077 is runnung 35-40 fps down from solid 60 fps before (full path tracing). It stayed around 60 fps even when my VRAM maxed out.

STALKER 2 is running at 50-60 fps down from 80-90 fps.

Ingame settings have not changed. No Nvidia App optimizations. No hardware changes. Tried ReBar on and off.

I just don't know what to do anymore... I can't figure out why this would / could be happening.

Does anyone have an idea?

4070 12gb, 5800x3d, 64gb @ 3200mhz

1440p, Win10

EDIT: I did another DDU and installed the older ver 576.88. THIS FIXED MY PERFORMANCE. F*ck nvidias garbage new drivers.

Can't change borderless resolution?

I play in 1440p. Borderless used to work. After DDU of nvidia drivers I can't change borderless res anymore and it's fixed to 4k. Fullscreen lets me change it without issues. I just hate fullscreen :/

What could be the cause here?

Got another one! (S500i Ed Hardy edition)

I found another S500i in decent shape (albeit much more used than the purple one)!

This one is the German Ed Hardy edition, which was released in 2008, as opposed to the purple one from 2007.

Unfortunately the coating has started to chip off. I will try to figure out a way to preserve it.

I got a USB data transfer cable and I’ll see if I can get the old software to run in order to add some mind 2000’s music to the library. I already added a 2Gb M2 memory stick to both if them so I can take a few poor quality pictures and videos on the go.

Luckily there will be 2 more years of 2G GSM support where I live, at least with the carrier of the 2 prepaid SIMs I got. I will definitely be using them for dedicated dumb-phone purposes until then!

Some interesting observations:

- the purple one seems to have a dimmer / darker screen (at 100% brightness) compared to the Ed Hardy one.

- the purple one ran pretty slow in the menu with the default theme (even after a batter change and full reset), whereas the Ed Hardy one ran super smooth. After sharing the special Ed Hardy theme to the purple one and applying it, it now runs much faster in menus!

I had the black and green one as a teenager. I absolutely loved it, but unfortunately I lost it only a year after getting it.

Took a few months of searching but I finally found one in great condition with accessories and an additional battery!
