M5 Pro MacBook Pro: 24GB or 48GB RAM for Design & AE?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to upgrade to the MacBook Pro M5 Pro and would love to hear from fellow designers and motion artists about what configuration you'd recommend.

My typical workflow involves Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects running together, along with around 30–40 tabs open in Firefox. My current MacBook Pro M3 Pro with 18GB RAM has started to feel like the bottleneck on heavier projects, especially when multitasking.

I also don't want to overspend since Apple has bumped up the prices quite a bit, but I do want this machine to comfortably last me at least 4–6 years. On top of that, I'm hoping to start learning 3D in the near future, so I'd like to leave some room for that as well.

For people with similar workflows, which M5 Pro config (CPU/GPU, RAM, and storage) has been the sweet spot? Is 24GB enough, or is 48GB the better long-term investment? And would you recommend 512GB or 1TB storage if most active projects stay on the internal SSD?

Would really appreciate hearing about your real-world experience. Thanks!

I work full-time for a foreign client with no presence in India, so my income comes as foreign remittance. I’m GST-registered since my annual income exceeds ₹20L. I’ve purchased work-related items like a laptop and office chair and paid GST on them. Since I don’t have any Indian clients to charge GST, can I claim a refund on this input GST or utilize it in any way?
