Superhero OC mock-up: Genox, the bio horror hero.

(1 and 2 are mock-ups, 3-5 are my inspirations)

Genox (G-Nox) was a 23 year old man named Marik Black; who was kidnapped and experimented by the Phoenix Foundation, an organization that aims to take over the earth on behalf of aliens. Marik managed to escape but was transformed into a terrifying monster and now fights the Phoenix Foundation as the vigilante Genox.

As part of his experimentations, Marik can augment his body using the DNA of animals (usually dinosaurs or adjacent creatures) contained in devices called Geno Slides. His primary form is a carnotaurus, which amplifies all of his physical abilities in equal mesure and gives him his armour and horns. He also has a human Geno Slide that returns him to normal but only for a limited time. His story is about trying to find away to turn him fully human, fighting injustice and learning to live with these new circumstances and how they affect him.

My main inspiration for him was Kamen Rider, his backstory is just a remix version of the original and I based his design on Kamen Rider Mugen and Kamen Rider Build Black Hazard.

Does this over complicate my power system?

In my universe, all the powers come from items called Geno Slides that contain the DNA of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. The characters use the slides to transform either into either bio-mechanical super-soldiers or monsters, depending on circumstances, with abilities, weapons and designs based on their respective animal (Triceratops shield, Ankylosaur mace, etc). They can only use one slide at a time initially but can use multiple as the technology and story progress, with the final villain using four slides at once.

My question is if it’s too much to add sub powers in the form of plant and fungal based Geno Slides? These ones wouldn’t be able to transform the user, but are instead used in addition to the animal slides to provide additional effects. For example: a Tree Slide makes the user’s body hard as a tree, a Cactus Slide gives the user spines they can launch at enemies, and a Mushroom Slide gives them toxic spores.

While I think it would be a cool way to add additional variety to fights, I feel like it’s too much with the form changing and later mix-and-match power system.
