Cool Album from 1999 : Tim Hagans ‘Animation Imagination’

Jazz meets drum and bass, typical 1990’s vibes, but with a greater interplay, energy and line-up : Kurt Rosenwinkel, Kevin Hays, Ira Coleman, Billy Kilson, David Dyson, Scott Kinsey, etc.

Local jazz heroes ?

Every city with an active jazz community has its local heroes. These are musicians who had little to no national or international career, but who are celebrated locally and have played a key role in training and inspiring the next generation.
Who are those musicians in your city or region that you would recommend a visitor discover?
Thank you

Ultra slow jazz tracks (below 55 BPM)

I've been listening to Kevin Hays' trio with Billy Hart and Ben Street for the past few days. These three musicians are true masters of ultra-slow tempos. I even think their versions of Song for Peace and For Heaven’s Sake are among the slowest jazz tracks I know. Both are played around 47-50 BPM, which is significantly slower than most slow ballads you find in the classic repertoire. Lester Young, Count Basie, and Ben Webster often play around 60 BPM, but rarely slower than that.
I absolutely love extremely slow pieces, so it’s become my little obsession at the moment. What ultra-slow tracks do you know and feel like sharing?

I have been listening to this masterpiece today. What a band !
Any albums to recommend from this period (1980/1990’s) ?

🎺 Best tracks with trumpet

Hi, I am a trumpet player and just want to know what are your favorite albums/tracks with trumpet.

Rare and obscure and tracks appreciated. I am quite familiar with all the classics Miles/Chet/Clifford/Lee Morgan/Freddie Hubbard (etc.) albums and I´d like to discover new music.
Thanks !

Transcribing solos / looking for an app

Hi, I am looking for an app to help me transcribe solos on my phone. I want an simple and easy one, where you can change speed and easily rewind a few seconds (and not randomly clicking on the lenght bar). Any ideas ?

Thanks :)

Solos that tell a story

Give me some solos that really tell a story from the first note to the last. In other words, solos that illustrates the common definition of improvisation as ‘spontaneous composition’.

I’ll start : Godwin Louis playing ‘I Surrender Dear’, with Emmett Cohen, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2CTGlTg2gKQ&

What a sound, what a technique, and what a storyteller

Song starts at 46:33, solo at 50:40
