What could be running with my bait and not getting hooked?

What could be running with my bait and not getting hooked?

Last night I casted a medium sized bluegill head on a 2/0 or 1/0 circle hook, targeting channel cats. Hooked the head thru bottom jaw and out top of the mouth (plenty of hook exposed) After 15 mins or so something runs hard and fast with the line - I count to ten then start reeling. Nothing. Cast back out. Same thing happened three more times.

Turtles have messed with my cutbait before but with how fast this was taking off I feel like it wasn't them. Could it have been a small cat and didn't fit the whole bait in mouth? Or a big one and I need larger hooks? Maybe bowfin? I'm stumped on it. Alligators were also present.

Only catching big bass on nightcrawlers

I've been going to this pond for well over a year. I've caught some bass on shiners and a ton of little fellas on wacky rigged senkos. But I've only caught two respectable ones. Both were on nightcrawlers on a circle hook. Anyone else have this kind of experience? Are the big ones too wise to the game to take my senkos? It is a pretty high pressure public pond.

First channel/bait question

I usually target bass but decided to be patient and throw out a nightcrawler on a circle hook. 10 mins pass and this guy starts running with the line.

So now im hooked, pun intended. Is my best bet to keep with the nightcrawlers, or do you guys have a more preferred effective bait for channel cats?

I play mobile and I main megalania, which I have found decent since I rely more on hit and run/chasing instead of precise turn. Been trying allo more lately and I have a horrible time turning to land hits. Is it a skill issue or have other mobile players noticed this too? I really want to finish growing rex too but so far I keep getting humbled.
