Tryouts and Bids: a coaches perspective?

Question for the coaches in this group regarding tryouts. My daughter accepted a bid to stay with her current team. I talked to the coach about his plans for next year, and he told me his plans. One of the better pitchers that he was talking about also coming back next year has secretly signed with another team. Her parents don't want to say anything until after nationals later this summer. I respect this father and his decision to keep it quiet, but that will also put us at a big deficit going into next season.

I have another friend who's daughter is looking for a team. She currently plays on a B team (we are A), but she is one of the better pitchers and batters on her team. She is looking for a higher level of competition. Our coach took a look at her and passed because he thinks that our pitching roster is full with 5 pitchers. Do I tell our coach that we will be short a pitcher after nationals and we should pick up this girl. Or do I keep my mouth shut and let things play out?

I wouldn't tell our coach who is leaving, just that we should take another look at this one girl. I have been trying to recruit her to our team for a year now. She plays on our 14U - B team now but won't age up to 16U with the rest of her teammates.

ADHD?

What would you do if you were told by a parent that one of your players has ADHD. Would it affect whether or not you give them an offer to play another year on your team?

She's one of the best players on our team. She is the most athletic on the team and very good at running and fielding. My problem is if she is sitting around for any period of time she starts to either space out. When we do team huddles she is absolutely looking off the other way and it does not appear as though we have her attention. I know that she is listening because when I give her directions she puts them into action right away. But some of the other players have noticed that she doesn't look at my eyes when I talk to her and it seems as though she's either disrespecting me or just not paying attention.

I talked to the parents tonight and told them that I'm concerned with her attitude and effort because sometimes she just doesn't look like she's engaged and trying. They told me that she sometimes feels bored during practices but during game time she's in it because everything is a little bit more unpredictable and therefore she's consistently engaged. My problem is that during practices we have to do a lot of repetitive drills and if she's resting for any period of time it seems as though she just gets kind of spacey.

Rarely had side effects until I got the flu

I've been on MJ for a year now. Rarely had many side effects other than occasional nausea that would last maybe 12 hours.

I've been on 7.5mg since last September. Consistently losing weight at a healthy pace. Until I got the stomach flu 8 weeks ago. I took a break from MJ for two weeks or so during and after my bout with the stomach flu. It was bad and caused me to drop 10 pounds in a week. I couldn't keep anything down and anything that I ate or drank exploded right through me.

Fast forward to today. I'm back to regularly taking 7.5mg every week, but the diarrhea and gas is persistent and lasts for 3 days after each shot. Is this my new normal? Has anyone else's side effects changed without a dosage change?

I'm still eating the same high protein whole foods and I'm staying away from grease and the like. But within 12 hours of my shot, I have lots of gas and diarrhea. Right now I control it with some Imodium, but it's this my new normal? Should I just stop taking MJ. My A1C is back within the normal range, my blood sugar is controlled, I'm still technically obese, but I have dropped 80 pounds since I started last year. I'm about 50 pounds away from a healthy weight. My bmi is still over 30. (I started very very heavy and out of shape)

Advice for tryouts

As a coach what do you prioritize in tryouts?

I recently talked to my daughter's coach about tryouts. He told me that tryouts this year are a formality for much of the team. It is a requirement of the organization but he is keeping a core 9 and looking for 3. He said my daughter has a spot for next year if she wants it. I told him thank you. And then I asked him what he is looking for in new girls for next year.

I was expecting positional players, pitchers, etc.

He told me and I was a little surprised. Skill isn't number one. He said attitude and effort is the number one thing he looks for.

Coaches... What is your number one thing?

Where does skill/talent sit vs attitude and effort.

What metrics do you use?

My daughter's former team used strictly metrics to get in the door, then it came down to attitude, coachability, and team fit.

Crowding the plate

Coaches, what do you tell your players about crowding the plate. Today we played a game where nearly every batter on the opposing team was crowding the plate. The pitcher started by avoiding hitting the players so she would pitch low and outside. At one point there was a player that had her toes over the line of the batter's box and she was hunched over the top of the plate. Our coach called for a fastball over the plate and it hit the batter for a free walk. The next batter attempted to do the same thing so my daughter (the catcher) asked the umpire and he called a strike. The opposing team coach complained, but the ump held his ground. The batter did it again and our coach called for another fastball over the plate, which hit the player hard and she walked to first sobbing. My daughter called timeout, went to the mound and they eventually got out of the inning.

As a coach what do you do? Do you call for fastballs over the plate, potentially hurting a kid? Or do you call for it to go low and outside.

Why did Rawlings get rid of custom softball/fastpitch glove models

It is curious, I used to be able to pick the model and size of a custom HoH fastpitch glove. Now we are stuck with one model and it has to be 12".

My daughter loves her HoH custom glove for fielding. I wanted to get her a new one for catching, but they don't make them anymore. What's up with that? She hates Wilson and 44Pro.

What are my other options.

Avoid Fourthwall; their mockup tool and printed product don't match

I used to be a Fourthwall fan. I love their ease of setup and customization tools for my store. But I recently made a purchase of 16 T-shirts; of the 16, 8 were printed incorrectly. The Fourthwall Mockup Tool doesn't match what I received. The printed items are off by 2 to 3 inches on both the front and the back. I have screenshots from the tool as well as the printed products. They don't match the spec. Fourthwall customer support is slower than cold tar.

And their response so far has been, "It's not our fault." Well, it clearly isn't my fault; I used their tools and ordered through their site. And yet I received products that don't match the design using their own mockup tools.

Does anyone know which font the Wu-Tang Clan used in its name within the logo? I suspect that it is custom lettering, but does anyone know for sure? Or know of a similar style font?
