Open tanks with snails, do they escape?

I see a lot of open top tanks with snails, but I’m wondering do snails escape a lot? Does it cause any problems? I have a 5 gallon tank with mostly Anubias and I think Ludwigia and am thinking about a snail to help with algae, but there are gaps in my glass top and I heard they’re escape artists. Or is a snails bad idea in such a small set up anyway? I would go for shrimp, but my Betta is a very aggressive eater so I’m sure he’d probably just eat them all!

What tools do you use to clean your tanks?

Recently did a water change that stressed us both out 😅 Now my poor boy looks like a blue cow, I assume from stress. Though I’ve recently cut back on the “color enhancing” granules as they’re mostly wheat based, if that has something to do with it? Now he gets flakes and frozen mysis shrimp. Anyway, he’s fine, but I’ve decided I hate the siphon I purchased. I want something MUCH smaller…even though this siphon said for “1.5 to 5 gal,” it is way too fast. So I was wondering what do y’all use? And what do you use to clean the glass? I’ve been recommended things like Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, but figured I’d ask around first.

I’m in Eastern Virginia, and just planted water lilies today. We get a lot of mosquitoes in summer, so I’m thinking ahead about ways of controlling them. (They say mosquito dunks are safe for fish, but they can affect dragon flys and such which I don’t want to harm). I’m not sure which kind of fish I should try and get. Mosquito fish or Flathead minnows? Mosquito fish are native, and flathead minnows are recognized but not restricted. It might boil down to which one I can find. But does anyone have experience with either? I’m not sure how large the container is, but I estimate at least gallons. I plan on adding a solar pump or filter.
