On The Bench, C.V Heljestrand No.8 Restoration.

A recent restoration, the C.V Heljestrand Swedish straight razor. To me quite a beautiful tool and is very similar to the MK.31, it's almost like a non thumb notch version but as always they can change from razor to razor a tad..

Some top notch stamps!

SOTD Filamonica Especial Para Barbas Duras EPBD Spanish Straight Razor

Another of my favourite razors, I fixed up the rubber tang guard on this one. Came to me with no rubber at all and after some research I came across a forum post about using a product called sugru, so I gave that a whirl. It works a charm and is showing no signs of wear or tear yet so it holds up well to use.

Hard to beat the No.14 razors they really are pretty much one of the best mass produced types of razor..

What pepper do you guys think this might be?

Hello everyone and good day to you all,

I'm having my first great year growing peppers, it's taken 3 years to get it nailed down, I now know what I'm at with them.

The thing is I don't know what I'm growing! I got the seeds for this season's harvest from one of the old Italian chaps down the allotment. He said got the seed 10 years ago from Cyprus and they started out as sweet pepper. Walking past he's plot I asked "are they peppers?" He said "yes, do you want one?" I thought he was going to give me one to try, nope he pulled a complete plant out and handed it to me. I had chillis till Dec,lol

When they are green they are mild but when they go red they are hot and to me pretty hot indeed! On the plant he gave me some were yellow but mostly went red.

Mine are currently all green bar one on the outside plant, another week and they will be going red I believe.

What type of pepper do you guys think I'm growing? I'll be saving seed from my best plant and growing them again next year.

Thanks in advance

On The Bench, Large Wooden Straight Razor

Something a little different came in, in a job lot of razors. A advertising sign of sorts, what's interesting is it seems to come from a country that uses the dollar.. It's now made its way to England.

Wooden blade is locked in place via a nail.. Thought I'd share as it's not something I see a lot of..

Guillermo Hoppe 14, Solingen Straight Razor.

Another of my razors I re-scaled ages ago. Interesting Henckels connection with this maker, always drawn to Guillermo Hoppe razors because of the calibration of sorts.

A top performer and always fun to use..

On The Bench, Honing In The Wild Rough Bevel Setting

It's a rough bevel setting kinda day, 3 razors on the left are the last 3 from an Elliots 7 day set that I've had for years, get them shave ready and move on to restoring the case they came with, first case I've ever had with the key still..

The J A Hellberg is for me also, the pivot hole on one side was blown through so I mixed some high strength 2 part resin with some sanding dust from the same material and left it for a week to harden. See how it holds up, seems ok presently.

Have a good day chaps.

SOTD, Finnigan's of Manchester Gentleman's Companions Set

A couple of razors I've recently restored and honed one of them, supremely made shaving tools!

Give Finnigan's of Manchester a search, quite and interesting set up, I've got another Finnigan's razor in my collection and again very well made..

SOTD, J.A Henckels 57 "Monday"

Maidan shave with this beaut of a razor, nice clean comfortable shave, with a Shapton pro 8000# edge. I like to knock the Nats on the head every once and a while to make sure I'm still on point with the 8000#.

Going into my personal collection so I'll be making some scales for this when I get round to it and re honing with a Nat stone.

Have a goodun chaps.. 👍

Small DIY solar allotment shed?

Hello everyone,

I'd like to install my first little solar project.. I want to set up a 12v solar system where I can then run pumps and maybe some lighting in the shed..

Presently my idea is to have a 10ah lifepo4 battery connected to a panel and controller.

Here's a controller I've found ⬇️

https://ebay.io/m/xaUPRl

From looking at the images on the listing I believe I could maybe connect an inverter to the battery to use my Makita battery charger to charge the 18v batteries through the Makita 230v charger. Please see photo

What size panel should I get? Is there a calculator I could use to determine that?

Thanks in advance

In The Mail, J.A Henckels 57 "Monday"

Another one to add to the collection, lucky find in a blind auction lot could just about make out the shape a bit and it was larger than the rest of them in the lot.

I had a Henckels 7 day set full of 57 razors that I restored and sold last year or the year before and I was torn in selling it but I've got a strict rule on 7bday sets, I'm only allowed one! And the one I'm presently restoring (6 years in the making) are better razors.

Superb German steel and a wonderful grind. Went through the 8000# with ease plus it polished up great..

I'll likely re scale this at some point, see how it shaves first.

Have a good day.

Edited spelling mistake.

In The Booth, John Watts "The Etruscan Razor"

Hello chaps,

One of my best finds, a number of years in the making a true tapered razor. Which I feel safe in saying are on the rare side..

The Etruscan Razor by John Watts of Sheffield.

I've re-clad this razor with some saved horn scales and performed a very gentle restore on the actual blade. Runs laps great and shaves even better..

A few things to look out for on tapered razors, hone wear and is it normal looking but the biggest give away is the tapered spine as the spine needs to match the taper somewhat, see my overhead photo.

Anyone that's got info on the tapered razors please chime in as there's not much out there. You can find a thread on B&B.

Have a goodun guys.

On The Bench, Finnigan Manchester.

Hey up chaps,

Got these fine razors in a gentleman's companion set. Made for Finnigan of Manchester, freshly restored. They strike me as either Joseph Rodgers or Elliots work but without any stamps I can't be 100%. What I do know is they are very well made indeed and are sporting a beautiful lustre in person..

Not came across this type of case before either, it's got slanted slats that hold the razors in place, a nice little touch.

I've got another beautiful Finnigan razor in my collection. Looking forward to honing one of these at least. I've got a feeling it's going to be a smooth shaver..

On The Bench, Gotta 120 Super Fine.

After just a gentle polish this super fine razor is ready for the stones.

In my opinion one of the very finest of hollow grinds the Gotta 120 super fine can even deal with tough beards they are that well made. The combination of grinding, great German steel, finish and scales make it a great shaver and tool to use.

I'll be running laps on this one as I can't not shave with one it seems.

In The Booth, Shepherd and Roberts Stub Tails

Another couple of stub tails, not so much my thing but I do enjoy them when I get them in. I was tempted to keep the Roberts but I've got one stubby to itch my itch and then the John Barber came in and superseded these two anyway..

Another olden oldie, looking forward to honing this one.

SOTD, George Wostenholm For Barbers Use FBU

Restored and reclad in some new horn scales, it's been my sole shaver for about a month. Performs super great and the weight and feel of it is bob on.

Another Wosty for my collection that I can see staying with me to the grave.

Right lucked in with a near blind auction lot, 2 FBU's and a few decent other razors.
