Princess Yue & Supper for Spiders Questions

Hey All,

I wanted to ask a few questions about how Princess Yue and Supper for Spiders would work for some different cards (for Princess Yue, assume I've had a clone come in as a copy of Princess Yue, then a copy of the card in question).

Pensive Professor; if it is a land and/or artifact from one the cards; it will not have a power, even if it has +1/+1 counters on it - So effectively, every spell I cast will trigger increment, and therefore trigger a card draw?

Pollywog Prodigy; similar to Pensive professor, since it has no power as a land or artifact, it effectively cannot draw a card, even if the spell is a zero cost, because it's PP power and toughness don't exist (and/or are considered zero). It can still accumulate a ridiculous amount of +1/+1 counters though, right? Which seems like there could be something interesting to abuse there. (Maybe Earth Bend or artifact animation?)

In relation to copy spells; either copying the land and/or artifact (token or clone), I have heard it'll actually go back to the original creature it entered as - is this true? Why is this the case? I assume it has something to do with copiable values?

Do the lands and artifacts still maintain their Mana Value? I'm not sure why this would be relevant, but I'm curious. For lands in particular, it seems weird they would have a mana value, but I don't see why they wouldn't either haha.

Are there any other weird interactions to look out for with these cards?

Thanks!

Delirium, Winter the Cynical Opportunist and Cards that "are or Aren't" card types due to a given condition

Hey All,

I am wondering how Winter's ability interacts with cards like Nylea, God of the Hunt or The Warring Triad; they have clauses that say they are not a creature. Does this apply to delirium if it's in the graveyard? Is it 'not a creature' signifying when it's on the battlefield, or is it effecting the card super-type in any zone?

Are there any cards that grant additional super-types to cards in other zones that would contribute to Delirium? Mycosynth Lattice for example would only apply to permanents on the battlefield, right? I.e. not contribute to a creature in the graveyard.

Thanks!

"Creatures you control" Effects

Hey All,

I wanted to clarify something that's bugged me for awhile and suspect it might be a rules understanding issue on my part.

Awhile ago I was building Kardur, Doomscourge, and I remember hearing or reading somewhere that Kardur's effect applies to all creatures my opponents control, even if they are not present on the board - i.e. If someone had a creature with haste come in on the same turn cycle I cast Kardur, that creature would have to attack, and another player if able; firstly, is this true?

If it is true, then why does an effect like Valley Floodcaller not apply? I.e. if I cast an artifact, then cast a frog; the frog does not get the +1/+1. I assume one of these to be false to make it make sense or I am missing something in the wording/ruling.

The explanation I vaguely remember for Kardur is that it is actually applying a "rules" change, where something like Valley Floodcaller is just effecting the current creatures power / toughness, which is a "layer" change.

Let me know how much I've butchered this, but it's just been an inconsistency in my understanding that's made me go crazy.

If there is something more to this, are there other examples to help me understand what's happening I.e. Rules vs Layers, etc.

Thanks!

Hinata the Dawn Crown and some card interactions

Hey All,

I am seeking clarity on a few things that aren't intuitive to me in regards to how Hinata the Dawn Crown works.

Spells like "Ashling's Command" that have multiple choices that can target a player - if I choose myself to Target for both drawing two cards and creating a treasure, have I announced 1 target or 2 targets?

Similarly if I play Prismari command, and for some reason I choose the following; Deal 2 damage to any target (I target an artifact creature) and I also choose Destroy Target Artifact on the same creature - am I announcing 1 or 2 targets?

My feeling is that in both cases it counts as 1 target, so Hinata would cause me to reduce the card cost by 1 generic in each instance; I assume to get the reduction I need to announce unique targets for it to be considered an additional target.

Assuming the above is correct, does that mean spells like re-direct lightning and bolt bend would also work, i.e. if Another player double target themselves, I could re-direct it myself?

Thanks!

Academy Manufactor - Absolute Clarity

Hey All,

I know this has been done to death, but I find there is some conflicting results on this and want to try and formularise this so I can just plug in my numbers and be on my way. I'm literally going to include this in my deck box so I can just play the game.

Let's define:

F = initial number of Food tokens created
C = initial number of Clue tokens created
T = initial number of Treasure tokens created
A = number of Academy Manufactors

Let's define:

N=F+C+T

where N is the total number of Food, Clue, and Treasure tokens before applying any Academy Manufactor replacement effects (but after applying any other replacement effects, such as Peregrin Took, if I choose to apply those first).

I think the general formula is as follows:
Total Tokens = N x (3^(A))

Each Token = Total Tokens / 3

Example:

I create a clue token, I have a Peregrin Took, so I instead make a clue and a food token. I have 4 Academy Manufactors.

N = F + C + T, so N = 1 + 1 + 0 = 2

Now Total tokens = 2 x (3^(4))

Total Tokens = 2 x 81 = 162.

Example 2:

Some combination of creation and replacement effects leads me to the following situation

5A | 6T, 2C, 2F

N = 10

Total tokens = 10 x (3^(5))

Total tokens = 2430

Each Token = 810

How did I do? Have I solved it or am I still flunking Maths class? haha

Thanks!

Faerie Artisans and Peregrin Took Tokens

Hey All,

I wanted to understand what happens when my Faerie Artisans triggers with Peregrin took twice?

I.e. An opponent has a (nontoken) grizzly bear enter; I also get a grizzly bear, and a food token.

An opponent then has another (nontoken) grizzly bear enter; my first Grizzly bear gets exiled; Does my food token also get exiled?

From the games perspective, is the food being created by the Artisans or from Peregrin took?

My assumption is it's from the Artisans, as the peregrin is merely applying a replacement effect, but the token creation is from the Faeries.

I also notice the card says "All tokens created by Faerie Artisans"; so I assume the only way to get multiple tokens is with replacement effects, i.e. create two tokens instead, etc.

Panharmonicon wouldn't work, as it would be two separate triggers, so the first token would be exiled after the second trigger resolves in the case of Panharmonicon.

Thanks!

Trying to find cards that make a player or opponent other than me have protection or shroud

Hey all,

I attempted to look for a card that allows you to give another player shroud or protection. The idea is that if someone plays a card that targets themself, I could respond and give them shroud so the spell fizzles. I couldn't really find anything on scryfall - Only Terfari's Protection, which isn't really what I'm after.

Any cards anyone is aware of? Wondering if maybe it has weird wording or just doesn't exist. Probably a counterspell is just easier haha.

Thanks!

Esix, Fractal Bloom & Applied Geometry

Howdy,

I just wanted to confirm I understood this interaction correctly.

I have Esix on the field, and I play Applied Geometry.

I target a birds of paradise, but then using Esix ability I point it to an opponents Ghalta, Primal Hunger.

Applied Geometry says 'Except it's a 0/0 Fractal Creature in addition to its other types. Put six +1/+1 counters on it' - so I am assuming the permanent I get is a 0/0 dinosaur fractal creature with trample, with six +1/+1; Not a 12/12 with 6 +1/+1 on it.

Thanks!

Modal Spells & abilities, removal of targets, and also Gala Greeters

Hey All,

Modal spells have caused some confusion in a few games I've played and I wanted to get clarity on a few things.

For example, lets say someone casts a Cryptic Command which instructs someone to choose two. Firstly, my understanding is the choice is part of 'casting' the spell, i.e. they need to announce their choices, and any targets. They might choose 'draw a card' and 'return target permanent to its owner's hand'.

Q1. If I were to copy this spell, I believe I must copy those choices as they are effectively 'locked in' on the stack (if the copy allows me to choose new targets, I could do so).

Q2. If the target got removed; does the spell fizzle? I.e. do they not get to draw a card?

Q3. If they chose counter target spell, return target permanent to its owners hand - can I bolt bend or any other similar effect that changes a the target of a spell with a 'single' target - Is the spell considered to have two targets, or two single targets? (lol)

Q3.1 What about a spell like Decimate or grasp of fate; is that a bunch of 'single' targets or multiple targets? I would've assumed multiple targets.

Slightly different situation, Gala Greeters and Panharmonicon - if a creature enters, Gala Greeters goes onto the stack twice - My understanding of this is that they are two individual triggers, and I must obey the restriction - so 1 creature I could choose to create a tapped treasure, and put a 1/1 counter, but I could not create two tapped treasures. I assume I make the choice with the ability going on the stack. Lastly, if I was to copy the ability some how, say creating the treasure; could I create two treasures since I'm choosing to copy it, not choosing it when it goes on the stack?

Are there any exceptions on the above? I recall one game someone said they don't have to announce their choices until resolution - I don't know if it was a particular spell or just a rules misunderstanding on one of our parts. Thanks!

Splash Portal and Muddle, the Ever-Changing

Hey All,

I was wondering what happens if I exile Muddle with Splash Portal when he is a copy of another target creature? Does the card consider him an otter because he returns as an otter, or does it check the type when it exiles it?

I assume because it comes back as an otter, I would get to draw a card.

Thanks!

Esix, Fractal Bloom Interaction Questions

Hello! I had a few questions about how Esix, Fractal Bloom interacts with different token creation effects.

"The first time you would create one or more tokens during each of your turns, you may instead choose a creature other than Esix, Fractal Bloom, and create that many tokens that are copies of that creature."

Academy Manufacturer - Say I create a clue token, I instead create a clue, food, and treasure. Do I get to apply Esix effect on just one of these tokens or all 3?

If a card says investigate twice or investigate x - do I get to apply Esix effect on all of those tokens?

If a card or ability creates two or more different tokens, like wurmcoil Engine

What if the card has different options like "Choose two"

-create a treasure

-create a 1/1 thopter

What if you can can choose the same mode twice?

My guess is that it applies to each instance of 'create' - so investigate X or choose options would be individual instance i.e. can only apply to one of them. Anything that just says create, then lists the tokens, you could apply Esix ability to all of them.

Edit: Just adding this as I wanted to clarify another example - what about Ezuri's Predation "For each creature your opponents control, create a 4/4 green Beast creature token. Each of those Beasts fights a different one of those creatures." - Do I just replace one beast or all the beasts? In either case, does the beast that becomes a separate creature still fight? Just because says "each of those beasts" - it's no longer a beast.

I am guessing I only replace 1, because it says "for each", which I think would mean each one is it's own instance of 'create'.

Iroh, Tea Master and Zidane, Tantalus Thief

Hey All,

I am try to understand the interaction between Zidane, Tantalus Thief, and Iroh, Tea Master in Commander.

When Zidane Enters, he "gains control of a target Creature an opponent controls until end of turn." I target Opponent 1's creature and gain control of their creature.

Iroh then "at the beginning of combat on your turn, you may have target opponent gain control of target permanent you control" I decide to give Opponent 1's creature to Opponent 2.

Okay, I think all of that is legal; The creature came to me, then the creature now is under opponent 2's control. Now the end of turn, Zidane should hand back the creature to Opponent 1, however, I do not control it; Opponent 2 does. My assumption is it now stays under Opponent 2's control. Is this correct?
