First time offshore was both amazing and heartbreaking.

Thanks to everyone’s advice I was able to go out today about 1.5 miles offshore to an artificial reef and had a pretty successful day. Caught plenty of bluefish, some Spanish, and some black sea bass. What was heartbreaking was that both a decent sized red fish and king mackerel (the fish I’ve been dreaming of catching) broke off from me today in the same fashion. I got them up to the boat, went for the net, and they saw it and went straight down and broke me off. Both were on my lighter tackle instead of the specific lines I was throwing for them but is there anything I can do to prevent this? Should I be trying to tire them out more before going for the net?

Thinking about going offshore tomorrow, are these decent conditions?

Hello everyone, tomorrow I was thinking about getting out to an artificial reef about 1.5 miles from shore. Wind finder says the waves will be 2.5ft spaced at 9-10 seconds with 5mph wind and gusts of 9. It’s my first time heading out and I was wondering if that would be safe for a beginner. Thanks!

Genuinely what do I do at this point

So I’m a college student and basically abstained from pretty much all forms of nicotine up until I was 19. One day I was looking at a really heavy workload and out of my adhd prescription so I picked up a 3mg can of zyns. I am now 21 and I have gotten to the point where I pretty much have two Pablo golds in throughout the entire day I’m awake combined with my prescription. I feel like my dopamine is utterly nuked, and I really don’t think it’s going to be easy quitting cold turkey considering I’m used to having 34mg of nicotine in my system at any given time. What approach should I take to fixing this? I’ve always been super health conscious, go to the gym regularly, eat clean, and I really want to kick this addiction before it gets any worse.

Edit: I would also like to note that I have been noticing blood or skin every time I pull out a pouch, this was honestly my big wake up call and I’m wondering if my gums can even recover from what I’ve put them through.

Is a predator 13 PDL safe for offshore?

I recently got a kayak about a month ago and have probably taken it out about 15 times since. So far I've done some inshore fishing in the marshes and flats as well as freshwater for bass. I'm planning on taking it out to the yaupon reef, which is about 1.5miles off shore. I made sure to purchase a reliable pfd, I have a gps and Vhf radio, and have been practicing flipping my kayak and getting back into it in order to ensure my safety when I finally muster up the courage to go out. I was wondering if it was even a good idea since I've heard some people say that sit on top kayaks aren't very safe for offshore. What conditions would be best? I have wind finder but would like to know what I should be looking for on my first time out.

Just bought my first Kayak, what now?

So I began getting super into surf fishing about a year ago and after a few months was looking between a cheap skiff or a kayak. I was scrolling through some deals until I found a 2018 old town predator PDL 13 loaded with about 1500$ worth of gear for just 1250$ (the man had gotten to the age where he can no longer safely fish on a kayak and just wanted someone else to get to experience it) I live in southeastern nc and have a multitude of rods and reels, most being quite old (a 650 750 and 950 Penn ss, Abu ambassaduer 10000c, a shimano bait runner4500s, some Penn senators, and some other trolling reels). I mainly got it to fish in the marsh for redfish but have been seeing videos of guys taking these about a mile offshore. What fish can I target and what gear should I be looking for in order to do that? Any safety/QOL tips?

Beginner in NC, looking for advice on how to catch more fish!

So about 2 months ago I’ve gotten super into surf fishing, and pretty much do it whenever I have free time. I live about 15 minutes from oak island so I do most of my fishing there but would also be willing to fish the Wilmington beaches. Most of the fish I catch on a double drop rig with shrimp, sand fleas, or ghost shrimp that I pump from the eastern end of the island. Aside from that I’ve caught a single flounder from throwing out artificial. I’ve caught whiting, plenty of sharks, pompano, and more croaker than I ever want to see again. Now that I’ve actually been catching fish, I want to try and target more species and catch fish in other ways than just your typical bait and wait. What fish typically run here in the summer that I can catch from the surf and how do I target them? I also only have surf rods and would like some recommendations for a rod I could bring to throw out plugs as well.

After half a day, no YouTube, and a lot of stress I’ve finally fixed up this beautiful ambassaduer 10000c

Can these conventional reels work?

I recently made a post asking about some equipment I found and put it to use, and so far I’ve caught some pompano, sharks, whiting, and an extremely underslot flounder. In my cleaning out of the garage, I found 3 Penn senators (2 being 4/0 special and one being a 6/0) and an abu Garcia ambassedeur 10000. Now I know the 6/0 would likely only be good for shark fishing but I was wondering if the other reels perform on the surf.

Inherited some gear, looking for advice!

Hey everyone! I have recently been getting into surf fishing (and getting back into fishing in general) and came upon some gear that my late grandfather used while he was doing competitions. All together for rods I have two 9’ rods, a 11’ rod, and a 15’ rod. For reels I have a Penn 650, 750, and 850ss as well as a bait runner 4500. Nothing was together when I got them, and I was wondering how exactly I should pair all of these and what line would work best.
