How to provide the best comfort for Muslim patients as a nurse

Hello everyone! I’m a new grad nurse who will be working in a hospital (NJ) that has a large population of Muslim patients.

Being born and raised in North Jersey, I have had the opportunity to grow up around Arab and South Asian culture with Islamic practices. I’m pretty knowledgeable on some practices and customs yet I’m open to learn more especially in a healthcare setting! I’ve had moments where I wish someone a “Ramadan Mubarak” or greet them with “ As-Salamu Alaykum” and have a positive response. I just want to make sure that’s okay for me to say and it’s not odd, right?😭

I just want my patients to feel welcomed and taken care of especially when there are languages barriers or cultural differences that I’m not aware of. (I’m Hispanic and Agnostic so I just go with the flow🤣)

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions! Thank you💜

Black Musicians in Rock

Hello everyone!

I am 24 years old and growing up the only English music I’d listen to is rock that my dad used to listen to in South America back in the 70s/80s.

After all these years, I have a love and admiration for rock music whether it’s American or British (British rock takes the win for me lol). Due to the love of the genre, I would love to learn and expand my listening to black musicians who were active in the rock scene.

I feel like there’s a lack of acknowledgment and appreciation for the black trailblazers who influenced the sounds of rock. I’ve listened to the incredible Betty Davis and I want more!!!

Please drop recommendations and opinions of your fav black musicians, band, group etc!

Hallucinating on Apple Music

I’m listening to hallucinating and the vocals sound very off especially when he says “ I’m a young n* with this check…the freshest thing I ever bought was that Bentley truck”.

Anyone else hear the difference? It’s lowkey ruining the song for me now😩

Is it possible to be a volunteer doula while being an ICU nurse?

This is for the future! I’m interested to know if anyone has taken this path and currently does both! Obviously nursing is a paid job and volunteer doula is unpaid plus utilizing your free time.
Background: During nursing school, I absolutely loved my maternity rotations especially labor and delivery. Seeing an individual bring a child into this world was surreal and being invited into the space was truly an honor. It’s a beautiful experience yet the workflow is not for me at all hence why I’m in the ICU. I love the hyper-acute environment that the ICU offers and critical care is my ultimate interest.

I would love to know if anyone is actively doing both and any insight from both doulas and nurses! Thank you!
