One year later using my Midea U shaped A/C with open drain holes - no mold good air smell

I posted about buying a Midea U shaped A/C last year just as the recall hit. I did not know it at the time but my unit came with removable drain hole plugs. In my earlier post I said I would drill out drainage holes to avoid the mold problem but it was not necessary.

I did sign up for the recall package which consisted of drain filters. As I studied the problem I decided not to use them and let the drain holes remain fully open. The filters (for lack of a better term) are designed to slowly let the water leak out and are to be changed over time as they clog up. I reasoned this is so the Midea can keep the water levels inside the unit to be splashed around the condenser for better efficiency.

I decided that losing some of that efficiency was worth it for two reasons:

One: Where I am installing the A/C I can't easily reach it so changing out the drain filters would be a chore. I want to leave the unit in the window and forget it (I bought an indoor winter cover to keep the cold out and it worked).

Two: I do not want any mold and even some water retention will lead to mold.

One year later, when I started the Midea up again the unit was mold free and had no bad smell, the air blowing in smelled fresh (I had an old fashioned box unit that had no drainage so it can splash on the condenser as well and the smell was bad after a week of running it from standing water in unit and it was properly angled). The amount of water condensation leaking out of the machine is impressive so I am convinced my approach was the correct one.

The Midea blows nice and cold as we go through the heat wave and my view in unobstructed from the window, win-win.

Need help identifying classical musician with a Punk Rock look from the past

I would love help in find out about a musician I saw maybe in the late 80s or early 90s (but could be 00s). I saw this artist on broadcast TV on maybe the Tonight Show or similar late night program. The artist was a white male with a Punk Rock look (he had a mohawk per my memory) who played classical piano (his own compositions if memory serves).

The only thing I can remember about his performance was he played the piano, his look, and that he plucked the piano strings like a harp as part of his performance. Based on my memory his music was more like experimental classical music with a Punk attitude - the best I can remember and describe it.

Any help identifying him would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Requesting recommendations for Indie superhero comics to read

I wrote about stopping reading comic books years ago and missing it on here. I would love to get back into reading comics now that I am retired. But sadly I just can't get into new comics for the reasons I mentioned in the linked post. I like old fashioned super hero comic book tropes and narration boxes, thought bubbles and I don't think DC or Marvel do comics like that any more but I may be wrong. I miss that style deeply.

I would love to read two types of comics from any indie publisher:

  1. Superhero comics by indie publishers especially ones that read like 1970s-1980s Marvel/ DC superhero comic books (they can be limited series or ongoing - preferably ongoing so I can get invested in it each month).
  2. Sci/fi - war - adventure - comedy (could be ongoing or limited series/one shots)

I try and get into Manga (my brother is a big reader of them so I have access to a lot) but except for a handful of books, I can't get into them.

Thank you in advance for your recommendations.

Thinking of returning to Comic Book collecting/reading but mostly old stuff

I dropped out of collecting/reading comics around 2016-17. I started reading comics as a kid in the 1970s and read a comic every week or every month of every year until I stopped. It was a combination of me getting sick and also not liking the current stories too much and changes in comic book story telling styles. What I mean is comics stopped referencing past issues, eliminated narration boxes, thought bubbles and changing covers to wordless artsy art pieces when old books used to advertise the story inside on the cover with bold words/art. At first I found these changes to be stylish (I think editorial direction changed and they wanted to deemphasize continuity and make the comic more cinematic looking like a storyboard for a movie?) but over time these style changes started to grate on me. So a combination of me getting sick plus not getting an entertainment value in comics caused me to stop around the time the Walking Dead ended.

I have this idea to break my old comics collections out of storage and re-read them and maybe see if I am missing an issue - catalogue them, etc.

One thing I do miss is chatting with my old comic book buddies at the store about stories and new developments and comic books were such a big part of my life for so long I feel a longing to return but I don't really care to read the new stories from Marvel. I was a Marvel zombie more than I was a DC fan but I am hearing good things about the current Batman stories. Any current series anyone would recommend (any genre/publisher?).

I feel like trying to go back to the Bronze Age 1970s-80s stories I missed especially DC books like Teen Titans or Brave and the Bold (lack of money as a kid) and also reading Image and Dark Horse books from the 1990s I kind of ignored because of their style. This way I can get my weekly (or monthly) fix going to the comic book shop and hunting for books again rather than just reading my old books.

I kind of miss the ritual of organizing my weekly pulls into the order I wanted to read them.
