I went to DSS today to turn in my application, reference letters and ask questions. No interpreter!

I went down to DSS. I switched over to them from another company because the other company said no access to interpreters. (i am Deaf). DSS still no interpreter. They said next time they will have one. I was very frustrated but at least everything is in. I did orientation. I need a letter feom them to section 8 so i can move to a 2 bedroom.

But seriously how does the government not get ADA?

I have a question about waiting.

I emailed the foster care social worker relying to his message. I am in the beginning stages and I am moving in March. He asked me about that. I asked him some questions and he did not reply. I waited a week and emailed him again a follow up.

I do not want to be a peat and hound him. How long is it normal to wait for replies? Are they usually slow?

I hope this is not a dumb question I just do not know.

Thank you.

Words Hurt At Any Age

I was waiting for the elevator today and someone in my building was apparently trying to talk to me. I have told her and others I am Deaf so if I don’t respond that is why. I didn’t know she was talking to me. And the I did get her telling me “You’re retarded.” I know she is wrong but it still hurt.

Concern about bonding with older children

I have just started the process to foster to adopt. I am Deaf and will adopt a deaf child. As of right now I am thinking up to age 7. I do not mind going higher but I am concerned about bonding. Those of you who have adopted older than 7 how was the bonding? Thank you.

I am so sick of hearing people feeling sorry for me

They keep saying “Oh no you can’t hear. I am so sorry.” Don’t be sorry. I am proud to be Deaf and not sorry.

Need Interpreters, CODAS and/or Deaf volunteers for new app project

“Volunteer” This is the app which is in progress. I am currently trying to find volunteers willing to put books into ASL. I have a lists of public domain books for children and adults. You can do it alone or tag team signing as needed. There is no rush. You can work at your leisure then add the book.

I am Deaf and when I do not have a book I use audiobooks but I then need live captions so still just reading a book. So my plan is to make books all in ASL for the Deaf and HoH. It is called ASL Visual Books. The public domain books are easiest as they do not require permission to use. Other books will. Also volunteers get a free membership account for helping create books. Of you are interested in helping you can also email at the all email ASLvisualbooks@gmail.com I am hoping to make the app public soon but it would be nice to have one or two books at least on there. Thank you.
