What can a person learn in 10 minutes that will be useful for life?

I know people usually say, “just do whatever you feel like,” but I’m more interested in hearing what people actually end up doing when they travel alone.
I’m going on my first solo trip soon. One city is mostly planned out, but the second destination is still pretty open, I mainly just want to explore, walk around, maybe do a few outdoor activities and enjoy the views.
I guess I’m worried that if I don’t keep myself busy the whole time, I’ll feel like I wasted the trip. How do you normally figure out what’s worth doing in a new place? Do you have certain activities or little traditions you try to do everywhere you go?
