Horseshoes. Why?

So I'm playing RDR1, having never played it before and playing RDR2 a few years ago.

I need to win a game of horseshoes. But what kind of miserable control system is this? The bloody horseshoes just seem to have a mind of their own!

Any tips on how to win this most miserable of games.

I'm on PC with Xbox controller (but can switch to K+M if that's easier).

Is the lack of rain affecting your mood?

It's just been so long since many parts of the country had any rain, how is it making you feel?

Seeing the yellow grass, plants drying out (I do water some in my garden, but not everything)

Some trees will struggle (Major Oak in Sherwood Forest died partly because of lack of water last year).

Bloody weeds still keep growing though!

Why do Americans call artificial grass turf at sporting venues?

I find it confusing because turf is grass.

Pretty sure back in the day it used to always be referred to as AstroTurf (from the Astrodome I believe?)

But now I always hear it referred to as turf, I guess it's just passed into common vernacular, but any reason why? Is it just because it's shorter?

Turf: the upper stratum of soil bound by grass and plant roots into a thick mat

But now also: an artificial substitute for this (as on a playing field)

What I learned this week with a small offset smoker....

REMEMBER TO PUT THE GRATE IN FOR THE FUEL!

attempting smoked duck. Wondered why temps were so low.

I hadn't put the bloody grates in for fuel, so oxygen flow was hugely impacted as there was no gap underneath.

It's nearly ready, but honestly, what an idiot!

In my defence. I was trying to a few other jobs while preparing the cook. Probably not ideal!

I'll hopefully post some pics later. Unless its a disaster (which is a distinct possibility!)

Kings peak

So .. I'm on to kings peak... It feels like such hard work compared to the rest of the game.

Am I missing something? It just seems like such a chore to get up the mountain.

Playing around with beef

So I really want to do a nice, medium, smoked beef.

So I've done it a couple of times now. 1st time massively over estimated cook time and hand a dry bit of beef that tasted nice.

This time... Absolutely nailed the Medium cook, and it was a cheap roasting joint... So I know I can pick a better bit of beef.

I think I want to play around with different cuts and see what I can come up with, but part of the initial process was just seeing how it tasted, and I didn't want to destroy a nice piece of meat!

Pretty happy all in all. And I will Improve.

Need a different wood. Cherry was too light. But the rub (Smokey Carter Chipotle Charcoal) was fantastic!
