Been Collecting 2 years … got more on the way
Started this back around 2024
First game was Zombicide 2nd Edition
My Favorite a game is Black Rose Wars-Rebirth
I like my collection because it contains games with a lot of themes of stuff from when I was a kid, Star Wars, Marvel, TMnT, He-Man etc
If I could change anything, I would organize by game mechanics, deck builders, trick taking, etc
Interesting Dune Imperium comparison
Just finished several sessions of Dune Imperium (both base and with Rise of Ix) with my wife. Afterwards, we were talking about the game, and she very unexpectedly compared it to Settlers. We landed on the following similarities:
- Race to 10 points
- High conflict games (combat area vs road/settlement zone control)
- Competing for cards on the Imperium row or settlement spots in order to improve future plays, but...
- Still can get screwed by luck of the draw/roll
- Milestone race for extra VP (influence track vs Longest road/largest army)
- Side deck could provide military or VP (intrigue vs development decks)
- We only played with 2 (+House Hagal rival), but can totally imagine table talk politicking at 4p.
I found it kind of funny that despite so many similarities, Dune Impierum is highly regarded (top 10 BGG), but Settlers is looked down upon (see: any r/boardgames that discussing it). What is it about Dune that makes it tick, but makes Settlers so despised? I'm a big Settlers fan while my wife dislikes both games, so I don't really have too much insight in this matter.

Kicking myself for not installing steamOS until now
I’ve had my z1e for about 3 years now and Ive always loved it in concept, but ultimately it never got as much playtime as it deserved to from me.
When a new game that I’d been looking forward to would come out, of course I’d play it. However, a lot of the time I would boot it up after not touching it for a couple weeks, go through and install new updates, then browse my game collection for a bit and then put it back down.
SteamOS basically removed all of that mess about updating. Downloading it and installing was a lot quicker and easier than I was expecting. Frankly though, the best part is that it just straight up runs better. I was never able to get into expedition 33 because of the visual settings I had to run to get it to work on windows but now it’s like it got an extra 10fps out of nowhere. Plus the sleep function actually works like a real sleep function should!
Genuinely how did I put up with windows on this thing for so long. I feel like rock Lee when he took off his weights in the first fight with gaara
Hey r/santarosa! I am looking for fellow board game lovers who are interested in meeting up every 1-2 weeks.
My main goal is to find players who are interested in playing more complex games on a regular basis. I love the lighter stuff as well and invite it, but I would like the main focus to be on medium/heavy complexity games.
To be as accommodating as possible, I would be happy to meet somewhere in Santa Rosa or nearby that is free to play at like a board game store or cafe if there’s enough table space!
Edit: for clarity, some examples of games would be Ark Nova, Root, SETI, Oath, Galactic Cruise, and Arcs.
