Is bad HR making the job search worse?
The staffing agency I worked with today told me about an opening for a system engineer job that I've seen a posting for on LinkedIn for almost 2 months now. Unfortunately I applied for this position so the staffing agency isn't able to represent me for it.
Then the person at the staffing agency reveals to me that they actually haven't hired a single person internally and that they've decided to go through staffing agency to fill the position because their human resources department can't handle the volume of applications. This is kind of a catch-22 because I have no way of knowing what their internal operations are like yet applying to the position through Linkedin as I saw it actually worked against me in this case because not only is there internal hiring process broken but I now can't be represented by a staffing agency for that same position.
So I'm now out of an opportunity due to something that's completely out of my control.
This isn't the first time I've seen this happen either I've seen other local jobs that have been posted online for quite a while and they're in a similar situation where they just stopped accepting applications and decided to go through a staffing agency to get the position filled.
I've also had some bad experiences with the interviews with human resources that may have potentially sabotaged my opportunity and one was this lady saying "We don't want someone who will leave after a year" - so basically revealing to me that their pay isn't competitive enough to keep people interested??? That people are either overworked or the work doesn't keep people who want to move up in their career???? Way to not think before you speak!
Also on another note I've been having an unemployment issue due to my last employer incorrectly reporting that I was still employed full time after being laid off, and their Human Resources is nearly unreachable by phone or email to get them to resolve this issue.
In regards to Human Resources being overburdened with applications I don't know if I should take that as a red flag or not that either A) Their HR people don't understand how to screen for the right candidate or B) their internal hiring process sucks, or C) they cant get the right people interested because its a 5 days on site / pay is too low but asking for senior level experience.
Is hiring just in general broken due to HR!?!?! That's crazy
