[Online][5e 2024][Sundays 8:30 EST to 11:30 EST][LGBTQIA+ Friendly][18+] Looking for 1 more player for a homebrew campaign. Details inside.

Due to scheduling reasons, we have a spot open in our brand new campaign (2 sessions in).

Campaign pitch: 5 years ago, due to the misuse of technology and magic, a great cataclysm occurred, resulting in the rivers turning acidic, the soil being corrupted, the air being polluted and society on the brink of collapse. Using the same great technology and magic, 5 island nations lifted themselves off the surface in order to survive.

But with this solutions, problems arose. The floating islands are small and already people fear another great collapse due to not enough resources.

During a festival to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of the Great Lift-Off, Archmage Pluvius urged the strong, the brave and the willing to find a solution to the problems facing this new world. At the same time, a great divine being called the Harmonious Choir of Words appeared and issued a challenge to the people of these islands: Go forth and inspire greatness.

Type of Game: High Fantasy with Sci-Fi elements. It will be 40% combat, 40% roleplay, 20% exploration. Technology will get more advanced as players level, so if you are uncomfortable with the idea of machines, guns, flying ships, etc, this might not be the campaign for you. I will not allow homebrew species, classes, subclasses, unless they are flavor changes. You will only be allowed to use official WotC first party sources. If you want to use a class/species/whatever from a 3rd party source, you need to ask me permission first.

This campaign is also very political. A lot of the elements in the story, lore, and situation may resemble real world issues, but they will never be directly connected. Rich vs poor, nation vs nation, political parties and activism, technology vs nature, these are going to be part of this world.

As a reminder: This is a safe space table. Bigotry and harassment will not be tolerated, even if is under the guise of "this is what my character will do".

Times: 8:30 PM to 11:30 PM EST every Sunday night

How We Play: Discord, Voice chat is required, DnDBeyond for Character Creation and VTTs.

To apply, answer the following questions:

  1. Are you 18+ (Must be over 18+).

  2. Are you able to make it on time every week (I understand things come up, that's okay, but being here for a majority of the time is a must).

  3. Tell me about your TTRPG experiences

  4. This table is LGBTQIA+ friendly and a safe space. There are a few things I will not allow (bigotry, racism, SA, abuse against children). Do you have any hard limits you have? If you do not want to post them here, simply DM me.

  5. Do you have any phobias or icks that you do not want to see in the campaign (this will have no baring on your selection). Again, DM me if you don't want to make them public.

  6. This table is 100% Anti-AI. No AI images or backstory. Do you agree with that?

Range of names in each UK Series (Up to 21)

So I was catching up on series 21 and something piqued my curiosity that I'm not sure how to explain: Is Kumail the earliest (in terms of alphabet) contestant to sit in the last chair? We know that the groups are lined up in alphabetical order, and it was odd to me to see him in the last seat. So I'm bored on a Saturday night and decided to see which UK Series had the smallest and largest range of letters from contestant 1 to 5.

So without further ado, here are some odd stats about the contestants and their placement in the line.

Aisling Bea will always be in the first chair, no matter the series.

Zoe Ball will always be in the last chair, no matter the series.

If you don't want to count the NYT as a series, then that honor will go to Victoria Coren Mitchell.

If you were to put everyone who sat in the first chair in alphabetical order, Julian Clary would be the last (Aisling would be first).

If you were to put everyone who sat in the fifth chair in alphabetical order, Kumail would be the first one, Zoe or Victoria would be last (again, depending on if you count the NYT)

The greatest range is either: Series 12 (Alan Davis to Victoria) which is a range of 22 letters, or NYT IV who has Deborah Meaden to Zoe Ball (23 letters, D to Z).

The smallest range is I THINK Series 4, Hugh Dennis to Noel Fielding (covering 7 letters, H to N).

The shortest range between two contestants sitting next to each other is Roisin Conaty and Romesh Ranganathan.

The largest range between two contestants sitting next to each other is Dave Gorman to Paul Chowdhry (I THINK).

I don't know what to do with this information.

But you are welcome.

[Online][5.5e DnD 2024][18+][LGBTQIA+ Friendly][Political!][Fantasy with Sci Fi elements]The old world is ruined. The new world will soon follow. Be its savior. Or help in its destruction. Welcome to Rhime.

Campaign Pitch:

500 years ago, society's greed destroyed the surface of Rhime. Great machines and terrible weapons of war consumed the resources at a rapid pace, causing kingdoms, continents, and society to collapse.

The soil was befouled, the sky turned orange and black, the oceans became acidic, and animals were pushed to the brink of extinction. Society decided to abandon this land and using the great technology and magic, lifted six great islands into the sky, where people would be safe. Most of the old technology that caused this ruin was banned. But over the years, little by little, backed by the rich and powerful and politically connected, the old technology from Rhime has made its way to the floating islands. Crews are hired by powerful merchants to return to the surface of Rhime and dig up old technology for credits. It is the fastest, yet deadliest, way for young people to make some quick cash and get out of the dredges of poverty.

You are a rookie on one of these crew. Your first mission starts tomorrow.

About the DM:

Hi. I've been DMing for about 20 years. I took a recent break, started a new campaign two weeks ago, and now the itch to DM more games has returned (if this pitch looks familiar, congrats, I'm running two campaigns with roughly the same idea!).

How did you learn how to play DnD (Or TTRPGs in general)?

There was some recent discourse on social media (won't get into it) about how DnD can be difficult to learn for some people if they are a certain type of learner. I'm a high school teacher and I see lots of different learners everyday, some learn by doing, others learn by reading instructions, some learn by listening.

So when I read the post about how DnD is difficult and hostile towards certain types of learners/people, I dismissed it at first. DnD is the easiest TTRPG to learn! Just read the rules! Follow directions! The rules are spelled out for you and are easily searchable!

But then I thought about it some more and some of my own experiences with it. I admit I sometimes get frustrated at players if they don't know certain rules about their characters, not realizing that they may never have used this ability/spell before and are confused or they read some bad info somewhere. And I remember people being hostile towards other players if they didn't do things a certain way, and how that hostility can sometimes come off as demeaning, rude, and even sexist/racist/-phobic. I see this happen to my friends when they tell me their stories about how they tried to join a game and the DM said "newbies welcome" and it wasn't newbie friendly at all.

And the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. To the players that learn by doing (I mean after they read the basic rules), it can seem overwhelming. I mean, the PHB is hundreds of pages long, and there are vocabulary in there that can be daunting to remember and understand. I think that's a part that people underestimate: There is so much new vocabulary for players to learn, if they aren't exposed to it before learning it, they might get overwhelmed by all the new words and phrases. And we see it every day on this board and others where players come in asking questions that can be answered if they read the books.

I was lucky when it came to TTRPGs. I watched my brother and his friends play before I picked up the rule book. I didn't understand the rules as I watched them, but I understood the structure of the game. Then the rules began to make sense and I was able to connect the dots as I watched them play later on.

I learned by watching, reading, and then doing. And to do all that just to play a game, that is a LOT of work to do.

So I ask this: Is DnD difficult to learn if you have no experience with any TTRPGs at all? I mean no exposure, no YouTube videos, no CR, no video games, nothing.

And how did you learn how to play DnD?

What game has the most achievements? Steam/XBox/PSN/whatever.

I was looking through my Steam library and saw something kinda shocking. One of my games, Tales of Maj'Eyal has a whopping 1782 achievements possible (I have 103 with 435 hours of gametime).

ToME is an old school rogue-like game with a lot of different game modes, quests, and difficulties which result in so many achievements. For example, easy/medium/nightmare (2 more modes I forgot) difficulties as well as semi-rogue like (multiple lives gained after completing quests), adventure (gain lives for reaching certain levels), exploration (unlimited lives) and permadeath (true roguelike, one death), and each of these combos have achievements associated with them.

And to add to that, the quests have multiple outcomes, so each outcome is now tied to a game mode and difficulty.

Anyone have a game that has more achievements than 1782?

Dress Code for Teachers: A relic of the past or something still happening today?

I'm just curious, I keep seeing memes of teachers saying their appreciation gift was "they got to wear jeans on Friday" or something like that.

I teach in a public high school and we are allowed to wear what we want as there is no dress code in our contract (I mean besides offensive things). I've worn jeans every single day this year, I've worn t-shirts, I've seen teachers wearing shorts and athletic gear.

So it got me wondering, do you all have to deal with a dress code? I understand private and charter schools have their own rules, but I'm just curious if this is a thing that is prevalent throughout the United States/world.

End of the Year Frustrations. My top 3

End of the year is here (for some, others have a few more weeks, but we will all get there together).

Here are my top 3 frustrations:

  1. Teachers who keep students long in class and then make them 20 minutes late to my class. I'm sorry, is my class no longer important? Why is your history class more important than my English class? Oh it isn't? So stop keeping them for 20 extra minutes and then writing a pass and ignoring my gchats. Now they are 20 minutes behind. Congrats. You are off my Christmas card list.

  2. Barrage of emails asking for late work submissions (no you cannot turn in your ice breaker bell ringer activity from January, I'm sorry), "having grace" with students as they try to submit their last pieces of work to get that magical 20.5% grade in order to pass (standards based grading everyone! Never adopt it).

  3. Frustration with myself as I again did not organize my folders to get ready for next year. I always tell myself "Keep these in chronological order because you are teaching the same thing again and again" and I never do. I'm my worst enemy.

Honorable mention: New password emails that fill my inbox until I change it and forget what it was.
