Hochschwab, Austria
Started at Seewiesen bus stop, hiked for around 2 hours to a hut and continued to the peak the following day (around 3 hours). Afterwards, I kept hiking around going to other peaks.
It was my first time hiking outside of Scandinavia and I felt like the trails were not as easy to figure out. I'm also used to wild camping but it was not allowed (I think it's illegal in Austria in general), so I didn't feel the freedom to roam further, because I had to go back to the hut for the night.
Other than that, it's a very beautiful place and also apparently a popular one for climbing.
Best hiking destinations near Vienna accessible by public transport?
I’ll be spending a few days in Vienna, Austria in mid-June for a work-related trip, and I’d like to stay a bit longer to do some hiking somewhere nearby, ideally within 3-4 hours max by public transport.
I found a few places on Google Maps that looked interesting, but I’m undecided between:
- Ötscher
- Heukuppe
- Hohe Veitsch
- Hochschwab
Which one would you say is the most worth it? Or do you have any other recommendations?
Thank you in advance 🙂
How do busy, responsible adults with full-time jobs and hobbies find the time, patience (and energy) to date?
It’s a stupid question, but it’s something that genuinely boggles me.
I always heard that your dating options decrease as you get older. In my case, it’s been the complete opposite. I get way more attention and dates now at 27 than I did in my early 20s. What has decreased is my patience and free time lol
Sometimes trying to arrange a date feels almost identical to arranging a work meeting: “Are you free Tuesday at 17:30?”, “Let me book a meeting-room table at a coffee shop.”
And then I’m sacrificing time I could’ve spent working on home renovation projects, bouldering, meeting friends, hiking, or working on my MC just to go on a date with someone who doesn’t stimulate me at all. And trust me, I’m already extremely picky about who I even agree to meet. I usually need at least two weeks of chatting before I can figure out whether I actually want to see this woman in person or not.
It’s just so much time, effort, and mental energy that sometimes it genuinely feels like it’s not worth it. Not to mention that dates cost money too.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s my job that makes dating so difficult. I work as a postdoctoral researcher in the medical field and between the workload, stress, and limited free time, it feels hard to invest time in dating. Or maybe dating just isn’t really for me, and I prioritize other things in life instead.
At this point, unless something romantic and movie-like happens to me, I’m probably going to stay single forever unless I actively force myself to date.
A weekend hike in Ekopark Raslången (Sweden)
It was around 20 km each way, starting from the parking place to Nytebodaskogen (Skåneleden SL1 parts 4 and 5).
I was told Swedish forests are full of wild boars but I had never seen one despite going there at least once a month. In this part of the trail I saw many.
