Civil Service to Public Service

I'm currently in the civil service and am pre-95, but still with a good few years to go until retirement.

I've spotted a role in a public service organisation that I'm qualified for and I think I'd be in with a good chance of getting it if I applied.

The pay scale of the job tops out at more than my current civil service grade tops out at, but I'm currently not on the top of my scale, haven't even started the 'long service increment' period yet.

My questions are:

a) Moving to the public service, would I move to the equivalent point on the public service 'grade' scale that wouldn't leave me out of pocket? (I'm guessing yes)

b) Would I stay on PRSI class B or would I have to move to class A?

c) What would happen my pension - I presume I'd retain x/80ths of my civil service pension and would have to start paying in to a separate public service pension?

DailyQ?

What happened to it? It's not showing up for me any more in the mobile app (Android), just the WeeklyQ.

The 'new music' question

People frequently ask "How can I find new music now I'm here?" Valid question. I've found what helped somewhat was that the DailyQ and WeeklyQ improved a good bit when I spent a good long while favouriting artists and songs.

Still far from perfect, though, and there's the problem too that for whatever bizarre reason, DailyQ and WeeklyQ still aren't available on desktop! I honestly don't know what they're thinking, not having added it already!

The solution I have found?

Keep using Discover Weekly (which, for me, has been consistently good at finding me new music I love), but then import it to Qobuz. But it's not straightforward, because you can't directly export that particular playlist, even using Soundiiz.

My workaround:

  1. In the Spotify desktop version, create a folder for your DW exports. Mine is just called 'DW'.

  2. In the Spotify app, click in to Discover Weekly (needs to be the app, the web version doesn't have the option).

  3. Click on the three dots 'more' option; click 'Add to Playlist'

  4. Click 'New playlist', and name it something meaningful - I use the date of the playlist. You now have a copy of this week's Discover Weekly.

  5. Open Soundiiz, connect Spotify to Qobuz, and import as normal. Remember to 'like' the songs you like!

Sorry if this is obvious and everyone has already been doing this, but it works, hopefully it's useful for people.

First world complaint :-)

I ordered some parkrun merch a couple of weeks ago, a milestone shirt for a friend and a couple of other things. Everything arrived on time, UK to Ireland, all good.

But... no less than ten emails over the course of the delivery? I mean, I practically know what Bob the delivery guy had for breakfast at this point!

LTGM card?

I have zero interest in the card in the current LTGM and also want to concentrate on Ladder, as I've a decent chance of making Infinite.

However, I am collection complete apart from that one card and want to stay that way. How soon until it appears in the shop?

Alternatives to AIB Online Saver

Have some cash in an AIB Online Saver account and just noticed they've done the annual bump down to the 3% rate only applying to the first €1000 saved, with 0.250% applying to anything above that. That limit will go up by €1k every month, but seriously, AIB, stop fucking around with stupid products like this! Yes, 3% is one of the better on-demand deposit rates around, I understand, but the pain in the arse of moving funds around every month to maximise the amount earning 3% is getting old.

Anyway, Tl;dr: My question is, moving a five-figure sum out of the AIB Online Saver, where's offering a good, comparable interest rate? Bunq's bonus rate is only 2.1%. Revolut are 2.5%. Anything better out there for demand deposit?

PC app just not starting?

The app works fine on my phone (Android), but the PC app (Windows 11) frequently just... does nothing. It's intermittent/occasional. Sometimes the app starts fine. Other times, like right now, it just does nothing. The app doesn't open. I can see in Task Manager it's listed and has spawned five sub-processes, but most of the time they sit there on 0 CPU use. Occasionally, two of them will go to 0.1% or 0.2% CPU and network activity for a split second, that's it.

Anyone else come across this, and know how to fix it?
