Samsung QLED Q80 (QE55Q80AAT) boot looping, any ideas?
I have a nearly 5 year old (bought Nov 2021) UK model Samsung TV who has never had any issues (aside from Alexa barely functioning at the best of times) but today it randomly cut out while watching YouTube on my PS5. It didn’t cut out cleanly though, while the audio was abrupt the picture faded out over a few seconds. When I felt the TV itself the back was quite hot but the top of the frame was by far the hottest part. (I guess because heat rises.)
Then it started to boot loop. It would show the QLED icon (which it doesn’t usually do when I turn it on) then the backlight and picture would cut, wait about ten seconds then try again. I can see the backlight cutting out when looking down into the top vent.
So I unplug it and let it discharge, sometimes even holding the power button tucked underneath for approx 30 seconds. When trying again the TV would power on for a short time (10-30 seconds) before fading out and boot looping again. I notice that the longer I leave it unplugged for, the longer the TV will stay on for before fading and looping. (I only tried it a few times so it’s not a perfectly scientific test.)
I’ve seen in some other tech support groups that I should check an LED indicator but as far as I’m aware my model doesn’t have any LED indicator at all. Not under the small badge in the centre of the bottom bezel (where the power button is tucked) or anywhere else, so I can’t use that to diagnose my problem.
I really can’t afford to buy a new TV right now as I already have some small debts to clear and I’m on a lower income. My dad is quite a techie so I might have him look at it (my warranty is far expired because Samsung only give 1 year for their TVs) and see if he can diagnose a power delivery problem. If that’s not the case, I might have a cooked panel which is far from ideal.
One thing to note is that it’s been an especially bright and hot summer here in the UK and for half of the day my TV panel is in direct sunlight. So it might be a heat issue, especially with how hot to the touch my TV felt immediately after the fault started. But at the same time it’s 5 years old nearly and this is the first problem I’ve had.
Any advice is appreciated!
(P.s I can supply anything from the rear info sticker if needed.)
