AI scepticism on podcast

I've seen an increasing amount of tech/financial journalists pouring deep scepticism on whether the AI revolution will actually happen or collapse into a financial blackhole of unbuilt data centres and unpaid loans.

One recurring theme is how journalists and commentators have fallen for "the lie" and are amplifying it through their platforms in the media by presenting full AI takeover of society as inevitable. If this theory is actually true then Rory is undoubtedly in this category.

I must confess I haven't listened to Rory's special series on AI, did anyone actually bring this point to the table and debate with him? If not, I'd love to hear a debate between Rory and someone from the AI-skeptic side of the debate like Ed Zitron on either their podcast or TRIP

Edit - this perhaps inevitably turned into a debate about AI generally - but my point specifically about the podcast - is that Rory should have it out with one of the prominent nay-sayers as I literally have never heard Rory even acknowledge that there are economic hurdles ahead for these companies (and it'sthere in black and white). It would be an interesting listen for the fans.

Warning about BBC iplayer spoilers

Word of warning to any Scots planning to watch the game with their Sunday morning oats instead of live at 2am - BBC iplayer has this amazing "feature" where if you fast forward (as you will be to get to kick off) then it flashes up with this "helpful" preview bar that points out when all the goals were scored.

You're going to want to cover all but the far left of the screen with your hand while scanning or just sit through the build up.

Good luck tonight from a Welshman with a Scottish granddad.

PS pass this on, I'm genuinely worried this is going to ruin a lot of people's day

Makerfield Restore/Reform dynamic

I drove through Makerfield/Wigan for a job last night and took note of the various posters and signs in gardens and on walls.

It's hardly the most robust form of opinion polling but FWIW I saw zero labour signs, two Reform signs, and six Restore signs.

I think Burnham definitely has a problem, but so does Farage I think. With the chance that Restore might chip off 10-20% of his vote a very real possibility, in my opinion.

Reminds me of going to Blackburn before the 2024 election, I took note of the many, many signs for the independent pro Gaza MP there and thought "ooh hello", and that seat actually went. Curious if anyone from that area has had a lot of Restore literature in the post, etc
