There’s no good irl crafting places
I don’t know if anyone relates to this, and maybe my idea is unrealistic but there is NO where to just go and pick random supplies to craft with full creativity.
90% of what I see when I look for something is pottery painting. And, I love pottery painting… but I want to MAKE something with my hands.
The other 10% is just classes where everyone makes the same thing. I hate those classes so much because it makes me feel like I’m back in art class at school. We all make the same thing, there’s no creativity. When I say I want to craft, I mean I want it to be based on the item I created itself not having the whole point be the creation of it where we all follow a tutorial.
I saw one place at the Providence mall in Rhode Island and I went in to check it out hoping it’d be like what I want and it was better than what I just named except you picked one specific craft with specific supplies and paid to do it. I don’t like this simply because I don’t like being told how to do my craft and what I have to use.
All the facebook craft groups I find, you have to bring your own supplies. Which is fine! I just want a place with options to choose from as well.
All I want is a place where I can walk in, pay by the hour or the materials. Look at shelves with buttons, ribbon, scraps of paper, fabric samples, etc. And just… make whatever I want to with whatever I want to. I should be able to introduce myself and sit at a table with other crafters and just converse about nerdy art stuff while I’m making a collage, the person sitting beside me is painting water colors, another person is making one of those clay face puppets, and the other is finger weaving some yarn without a worker standing over our shoulders telling us what to do…
Why has no one brought this to life yet? Do people not realise just how much WASTE would be saved by being donated to a free-for-all-supplies craft bar? So many plastic bottle caps, soda can tabs, shredded paper, news paper clippings, yarn, socks, buttons, miniatures, etc. go to waste and straight into the ocean when they could be upcycled at a place like this. I’d even be ok if places like home depot donated their little paper paint samples I could make a rainbow ordered scrap book with those little paint samples squares!
It would be such a good date spot, or a place for parents to take their kids. I’m so bored with the current public-craft state of society right now.
