I shoot with the original Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (BMPCC OG), and my brain is hardwired to lock it at **ISO 800** to squeeze every single drop of dynamic range out of that vintage Fairchild sensor. I know exactly how it behaves.

Now I’m throwing the **DJI Osmo Pocket 4** different sensor/color science, use it for quick B-roll and stealth shooting. But here is my question for anyone who actually pixel-peeps this 1-inch sensor:

**What is the absolute, definitive "sweet spot" ISO for the Pocket 4 to get the best possible balance between sharp definition, clean shadows (low noise), and maximum dynamic range?**

If I shoot 10-bit D-Log M, the camera forces me into a baseline of **ISO 400**.

* Is ISO 400 the actual native peak of this sensor where the highlights and shadows are perfectly balanced? * Or does it behave like the OG Blackmagic, where bumping it to ISO 800 actually gives me more highlight headroom at the expense of a little clean shadow noise?

I want to avoid that over-processed, mushy smartphone look, so I already plan to drop internal sharpening/noise reduction to -1. But I need to nail the ISO strategy before I go out and buy a heavy set of magnetic ND filters to control my shutter.

If you’ve tested the dynamic range limits or color-graded this footage alongside cinema cameras, let me know your experience. What ISO do you lock it at?

The goal is the union between the color science of a 13-year- old bmpccp with the -inch sensor of Osmo pocket. Here's some shot i think with next firmware update color noise will be reducted.I don't understand why the Osmo Pocket 4 is taken less seriously than the Osmo Pocket 4P. The important thing is to know what you have in your hands. If you're a videographer, then you're sure to get the most out of it. If you're a 19-year-old Chinese influencer who sells makeup, forget it.

DJI OSMO POCKET 4

A week ago I bought a DJI Osmo Pocket 4 to have a lightweight camera I can quickly deploy during strenuous hikes along the trails of Mount Etna. The goal is to match the color science of a 13-year-old camera (BMPCC _ OG) with a recently released 1-inch sensor (OSMO POCKET). The secret is obviously the Log. It took me two days on DaVinci because the Osmo's D-Log is quite new and in some sections of the histogram you can see that it is still closed, the color matching depending on the angle of the sunlight is not working. Obviously I still have to study the Osmo thoroughly. Maybe with the next firmware updates they will fix it. I find it fascinating to be able to find a point of convergence between two such different technologies, CineDNG RAW and D-LOG, and try to create a unique product, fluid in terms of colorimetry. Let's see how the other projects go.

On July 5th, we reached the area near the Sartorius Craters to film a demonstration video for a PhD program in Environmental Sciences. Having all the required equipment on hand, I documented the ongoing modest eruption with my Bmpcc OG
