From BMPCC OG (ISO 800) to DJI Osmo Pocket 4 – which 'ISO "Sweet Spot" for best result
I shoot with the original Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (BMPCC OG), and my brain is hardwired to lock it at **ISO 800** to squeeze every single drop of dynamic range out of that vintage Fairchild sensor. I know exactly how it behaves.
Now I’m throwing the **DJI Osmo Pocket 4** different sensor/color science, use it for quick B-roll and stealth shooting. But here is my question for anyone who actually pixel-peeps this 1-inch sensor:
**What is the absolute, definitive "sweet spot" ISO for the Pocket 4 to get the best possible balance between sharp definition, clean shadows (low noise), and maximum dynamic range?**
If I shoot 10-bit D-Log M, the camera forces me into a baseline of **ISO 400**.
* Is ISO 400 the actual native peak of this sensor where the highlights and shadows are perfectly balanced? * Or does it behave like the OG Blackmagic, where bumping it to ISO 800 actually gives me more highlight headroom at the expense of a little clean shadow noise?
I want to avoid that over-processed, mushy smartphone look, so I already plan to drop internal sharpening/noise reduction to -1. But I need to nail the ISO strategy before I go out and buy a heavy set of magnetic ND filters to control my shutter.
