As an Indian Muslim I've heard this thing all my life to wear a 'topi' (head cap) while offering salah. Last year I came to know that it's a cultural thing and is neither mandatory nor sunnah...so I stopped wearing it often. and for this reason my parents and family members started to scold me, by saying baseless things, I even told them everything still no one understands, not only this topi things but there are many cultural things which indian people associates with islam and sunnah, and when I debunk these things I get scolded in return and they say 'bache se jitna keh diya jaye utna kar lena chahiye zyada muhzori nahi karni chahiye...' I'm 19 btw
