Splitting rent question
My roomate and I are both college students and have been renting an apartment since January. Her boyfriend is moving in, and I'm wondering how we should approach splitting the rent. They would be sharing a bedroom and bathroom (with him being able to use the guest bathroom when we have no guests but it's not connected to their bedroom that extra bathroom). I also have my own room and bathroom connected to mine. All the rooms and bathrooms are the same size.
I was thinking of proposing we split utilities three ways. And to split the rent with 50% being for the common area and it split three ways and 50% for private area and I pay half that since I have my own room/bathroom and they pay 25% each.
Does this seem fair? All in all, it would come to my share 40% of all costs and their half 60% of all costs
