Ottonian survival ;

The Ottonian dynasty ended in 1024, with the death of Henry II who died childless. The point of divergence in this timeline comes with Henry forgoing a second wife after Cunigunde proves barren, or she herself bears a son who survives infancy. This is the time period where divorce and remarriage among dynastic families were still common, and the church had little power before the Gregorian reforms… The man himself had strong relationships with the German episcopate and could have navigated himself to do so especially when he was still active and vigorous. Henry's advisor Archbishop Willigis of Mainz pressures him to take a politically strategic second wife, perhaps a Polish or Danish princess, thus resolving a simmering succession crisis, while solving frontier diplomatic problems simultaneously. Cunigunde, deeply religious, retires to her convent voluntarily and is later venerated as a saint. 

With a stable Ottonian succession it can be placated that the Investiture controversy could arguably never happen, the Ottonians were highly symbiotic with the imperial church, installing the Reichskirche system, implementing bishops as loyal royal administrators, contrary to this the subsequent Salian dynasty lacked the Ottonians personal relationship with the church, Henry IV was a child king whose regency was chaotic, easily exploitable by scheming popes such as Gregory VII. A strong Ottonian king in 1076 does not go to Canossa and the pope's temporal ambitions are checked a century earlier; the German princes never receive concessions because of this, and the prince’s confederation that made Germany ungovernable never fully forms.

Close situational relationships with the Norse and overall improved connectivity of Central - Europe, the empire could have been possible allies with the Danes or Norse gaining Trans - Atlantic navigational knowledge of lands such as Iceland, Greenland and ultimately Vinland. With the advanced shipbuilding technologies of the Hanseatic/Italian merchant leagues and the added navigational knowledge from the Genoans the empire began leering for new lands as the surplus population increasingly destabilised the nation.  

Named Waldena the first German explorers land on the coasts of the Antilles and Recife, named after beliefs that this continent was a land bountiful of forests which never ended. The same cannot be said for the natives of the North American continent with the remaining empires of the Toltecs and Chichimecas subdued and culturally assimilated in the Anglosphere, the empire's history is pertained through its constant efforts to establish its dominance in Europe and the world. Establishing its legacy in both the Americas, Africa and Oceania. The map partakes directly after the African partition conference circa 1832 and the 200th anniversary of Waldena’s independence from Imperial Germany. The Arctic is clay of the Nords and Walds which rushed to pertain lands in hopes of colonising the Boreal south, now a major centre of trade for Arctic goods and inter - oceanic trades. 

The Americas and the world in general face an increasingly multi-polar world, Tawantinsuyuu much like Japan becomes a respected world power among the European powers, while the French and English empires leer at Imperial holding, conflicts will brew.
