Bear isn’t a coward for not pulling the trigger

There’s something that i don’t get, a lot of discussions around the movie say how much bear was coward until the end cause he didn’t kill himself with the gun. The problem for me why suicide in this context taken so lightly, we talking about ending your own life here, its something that your brain and body will resist until the end imagine like standing on the edge of a cliff your whole body trembles and your brain freaks out and then we go and say the equivalent of ah easy just take one step and drop and die

furthermore, even if he killed himself with the gun it doesn’t make him a hero… cause bear never loved Nikki and to do a heroic act it means to sacrifice something, sacrifice in a way of giving your life for something that outweighs it and bear always cared about himself more then Nikki, therefore if we established that he’s not a hero for killing himself then not killing himself didn’t make him a coward. He would be a coward if he from the start loved her (and not just romanticized about her) and understood that is the only option that could free her but then still he wouldn’t do it thats what would make him a coward.

Really would love to hear your opinions about that.
