Question for owners of the Bolt Action Marker

Question for owners of the Bolt Action Marker

Does it ever dry out prematurely?

I've been using a stainless steel sleeve from Sharpie for the last few years, but would appreciate the upgrade to a retractable design.

I saw a similar Bolt Action Marker from Marksmith that states:

"NOTE: The Marksmith bolt action clip has about 1mm of free play when retracted. This is intentionally designed to ensure that the cartridge is fully retracted, and the cap is completely closed to prevent drying out."

Does the BID magnetic system have any problems with that, seeing as they use the same cartridge?

I am very glad that a Bic-compatible pen exists out there!

BID x Knafs Sancho pen

I also have the Bic ReNew, which I do NOT recommend, and the Sherpa Stick cover, which I DO recommend.

Where can I buy fine point Bic cristals nowadays?

Amazon has them priced 1600% higher than medium points. My local Staples/Office Depot does not even have cristals in stock, only Round Stic.

I suppose I could buy fine point round stics and transfer the insert if they are the same?

Modifying purchased armor tips?

I have a cheaper pair of gauntlets and a helmet that are made of mild steel, the gauntlets around 18 GA and the helmet 14 GA. Would it possible to hammer them cold to slightly reshape the fit?

For example, hammering the lames of the gauntlet to better fit my fingers. I would like to avoid heating as it would mean popping all the rivets to take off the glove/liner.

Does a bic cristal ("stick" pen) compatible retractable pen exist?

My machined pen collection is in both Parker g2 and Pilot g2 sizes, but I find that I rarely carry them because they just run out of ink too fast (a few days for the pilot g2, a couple weeks for the parker g2).

Meanwhile, my Sherpa pen cover with a Bic inside is my go to because it just lasts so long and is inexpensive to maintain. My BID, Machine Era, TT, etc., sit in my bag...

Suggestions for budget historically-accurate accompaniment for this helmet

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a historical way that a helm would be used without full plate in the late 15th century.

I assume a breastplate and arm protection was minimum, but what about only a thick gambeson? Or maybe gambeson+mail?

Quick backstory: I started collecting pens from 2015 to 2023. I bought about 9 pens in that time, ending with my "grail" pen (Nakaya), which was also when I graduated from university.

Something about the combination of not needing to write for hours a day anymore + achieving the pen I wanted most made me lose interest in collecting as a hobby. Consequently, I sold off my collection except for the Nakaya. I still write, but I lost a lot of the joy of using the instrument.

Lately, I have been missing using a variety of pens and being involved in the community of pen makers and collectors. I want to start collecting again, but it feels like a consumerist spiral to start buying things I've already sold.

Anyone else ever have seller's regret? What did you do about it?

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the great insight and for sharing similar experiences! The answer seems to be to wait for a confirmed start date before dropping the other job.

This is a bit of an unprecedented situation for me that I'm hoping for some advice on.

I posted only yesterday that I received and accepted a job offer after a two year long job search.

Today, I have another possible offer pending background check.

The first job that I already accepted is a temporary (2.5 month) survey technician position with BLM, and the second job is full time working with a county air pollution board.

It's a no brainer to wait to formally accept the air board position and then retract my acceptance of the first job right?

I am worried about burning bridges so early on, but a permanent job seems to outweigh the temporary job, even though it would be more directly environmentally related and is hands on experience.

I graduated in 2024 with a BS and have had no luck applying all throughout California until now.

The job is a short 10 week position for a wildlife survey technician. Not great after half a thousand applications, but it sure beats retail work.
